"I dont even fw jon like that"

".....yall on a music forum and don't know who jon caramanica is? this is why music journalism is in the s***ter"

    Aight man lol

Ya know it's just much easier to say f*** that guy than try to shame somebody for not knowing who he is. Just from the quick Googles I did of him, he's hardly anyone worth knowing about. Especially when it comes to hip-hop. He's just some run of the mill white hip-hop head. They a dime a dozen. And they all corny.

This isn't the hill to die on. He showed his true colours in the Solange situation and proved he's no different from the others you mentioned.

Solange made a comment that white journalists covering R&B music should know who Brandy is. She was asked to join the New York Times podcast to discuss her comments and declined.

Jon and some other white guy went ahead and discussed Solange and the topic and Jon said “I went to Solange’s concert and I noted who her audience was, and if I were her, I’d be careful of making these statements because I’d be careful not to bite the hand that feeds me.”

crackers always be saying dumb s*** like this, but it’s such a moot point because at the end of the day of course y’all still gonna go see black artists they literally are the trendsetters, they create the culture. If you like r&b who the f*** else you gonna go see?

Also what an idiot, thats such a dumb point to make in the first place because solange was talking about music critics not her fans lol. And everyone should know Brandy.

you can not like him for that and that is understandable and fair, but the s*** adin, vlad, and trap lore have said is 10x worse and all three of them treat our culture pretty much like a minstrel show

The very simple to comprehend main point that me and others itt have been making is f*** all of these white hip-hop reviewers. They all got something on them that makes them wack as hell and show why we need to stop acknowledging them or giving them any kinda credence on Black music and art.

I don't give a damn that this one guy is better than the others. That's like being a shiny penny among a pile of feces. Like yeah, he's slightly better, but he's still just a penny. And covered in poo.

Let's start giving the Black music journalists and reviewers who are talented more recognition and praise. They're out there and they've been doing great work.

He was being ignorant and tone-deaf. The comment he made implies she should know her place and shut up because her audience has ownership over her. That in itself is very dangerous especially saying it as a white person about a black artist.

listen as much as i would love to purge all of these cacs from our culture, the point i'm trying to make is that unfortunately they arent gonna go away anytime soon so we have to deal with them. i honestly i would much rather deal with a c***like jon, someone who yes did some sus s*** before, but is able to intelliectually engage with us and is willing to understand us, than have to deal with adin ross who mocks and belittles the culture

I think a better question to ask is that even with all the wack s*** these white guys have done and said about some of our best artists and most important artists, why are they still popular in our culture and why do our artists still feel the need to go on their platforms?

We're in a time where there are a ton of Black music journalists and platforms we can go to in order to speak about our art and culture. With particular nuances and subjects that can be further expanded upon.

I don't even like hearing the "they have bigger platforms" thing because it's the artists who help out these budding Black platforms but doing work with them. Their fans will discover a new platform or journalist and now they get bigger.

Basically, we should get it to a point where we shouldn't even have to say something like "I'd at least rather deal with this one slightly less s***ty white journalist/podcaster than this other s***ty white journalist/podcaster".

to answer your question, honestly the uncomfortable truth is that some of our artists still have the anti-black belief that these white publications/ podcasters are more prestigious and thus give them more cred as a “serious artist”.

thankfully this is slowly going away as niggas like deonte kyle (that chance interview was amazing btw), YNS, and the company man are doing their thing, but unfortunately that has to be said

  • Aug 22, 2025

He's probably got a point, but you gotta look on Reddit / Facebook to see what he's talking about. People who actually follow hiphop don't use the phrase that much anymore, so it's a giveaway that someone is out of touch.

  • Aug 22, 2025

I been telling this to my fellow whites for nearly 10 years now

  • Yes it’s like when white people using “woke”. These terms are closeted racial slurs at this point

A lot of people for sure see going on a non black person platform as more prestigious

CineMasai been having some great interviews with rappers too. I still feel DEHH does a great job when discussing albums and breaking them down.

It's a shame they still look at these major white publications with such high regard. Be sitting in the podcasts and interviews sounding mad uncomfortable, the conversations are awkward, and they putting on airs. Not even sounding natural and letting weird microaggressions slide so as not to cause a scene.

Why even deal with that when you can go to your peoples' platforms and having way more intimate and natural conversations while also helping them grow bigger?

Will never make sense to me.
