They got em cheap on eBay
Those old Rolling Stone mags with the cigarette ads hit differently
I definitely have some with two page joe camel spreads lol
:datass:
Man I might be mistaken but that full out GLAM, like the makeup, big hair, all that.. Gotta be something that could only have worked in the 80's
It just goes with the lots of d****, groupies and power ballads.

America wasn't on that in the '70s like the UK was
The New York Dolls said they were livid when they saw how successful Crue was

Hey man i'm not a glam expert
what bands had the full makeup and glam attitude back in the 70's ? I thought Kiss was more like characters or something
and did it work in the 70's ?

T.Rex invented, Bowie quickly followed, Roxy, Roy Wood and a bunch others after that. Kiss were late.
They narrowed it down to the moment Bolan applied glitter to his face before this performance lol

And Bowie here

Was the 70's glam bands successful down here ?
The US version of glam was more "power pop"
Kiss was more about S&M than gender androgyny
Was the 70's glam bands successful down here ?
Down where? Florida?
Bowie was f***ing massive in the states by Ziggy Stardust

did you check out the Ruffin album produced by Whitfield from '74
some great stuff
i checked his 1969 solo album and it was a midpack to me
my soul phase ending this week now though
Was the 70's glam bands successful down here ?
there was still some success for sure but dont think it was anywhere near it was in the UK
feel like average boomer in USA doesnt know who T Rex is but they still heard Get It On (Bang a Gong).
i think the ones that were on the border of glam rock and hard rock like Kiss were the ones that were succesful here

Yeah he didn't have any keeper solo albums for years. Part of the reason I was so surprised when I found these gems. He still had it.

yeah I think Kiss was proto glam metal in a way for sure. maybe the biggest influence on it tbh, especially with the way glam metal was much more of a USA phenomenon
and then in the 80s Kiss made full-on glam metal themselves
glam metal to me is basically the glam rock fashion, even more excess, combined with more USA attitude and the heavier sound and guitar approach of bands like KISS, Van Halen, Aerosmith, Scorpions, Alice Cooper (which were either glam themselves or influenced by the movement)
definitely got that much different vocal style too. no sneering Brit attitude, more the maximum testosterone-loaded cheese approach
bizarre concept of having much more machismo than 70s glam rock while still dressing up as women

Going to a show at a small club in 1980s LA/NY/Philly must’ve been wild
