six-lack?
LMAO😐
There's a lot of great new music as well. Art doesn't get worse as you age, all that happens is you stop having an open mind.
Literally every generation going back to the 60s said that the new music is all garbage and music was best when they were a teenager
Nah the internet and the degradation of intellect along with the democratization of recording has led to music being worse, we see it in all media. People like to make it a generation gap thing but it’s not that. Post covid everything just IS worse
No one should be listening to Jpeg mafia unless they’ve heard every Curtis mayfield album in full at least 20 times each. If you listening to the new Bladee you better have heard every Sarah Vaughan release (and there’s hundreds of them). To me there’s no excuse at that point
the beef is why i joined this site but some of these iceman mfs consider this a lifestyle. day and night i see the same AI ice users in every thread thirsting for women and making up cuck fantasies against their haters
It's not even the obsession
It's that niggas literally do not know how to have a civil conversation that doesn't devolve into some kind of cheeky ad hom
And sure it's the internet and that's always gonna be stat quo
But with Drake the level of ignorance is just magnified
niggas deadass just wanna argue with you and hear themselves talk

That's not true man. What's worse is the industry and business aspect of how art is created and distributed. The actual art itself is not worse. There are plenty of amazing albums, films, shows, games, books, etc. being put into the world every day. I'm not saying you shouldn't know your history either, because that's important as well, but this mindset that "all art sucks now" is just completely untrue and close-minded.

Responding to the edit, those generation gaps are different than this one and while it’s easy to hide behind that “every generation said things got worse” s***, what about in a time where everything actually has gotten worse? Music wasn’t best when I was a teenager it was best from 1960s to 2019 before the societal collapse

My point is, if you were a teenager right now, you would not feel that way. In 2045, the 25 year olds are gonna be saying "music sucks now" just like older Gen Z is doing right now

Honestly I wouldn’t even stand on “it sucks” but it’s generally not as well crafted as stuff from the past unless it’s an artist like Drake or Kendrick that you can tell put time and thought into it. I’m not listening to this digital d*** music that was made in 10 min

My brother, 40 year olds said the same thing about hip-hop in the 1980s. This is nothing new. Art evolves and changes as time passes, that will never not be the case
Artists really used to put "No Synthesizers" on the cover of their albums back in the day, now there isn't an artist in the world who hasn't used a synthesizer at one point or another

I’m just not okay with grouping moments like that in with this moment in history
In the 80s everyone could still read. We’re talking about a generation where the ancient art of reading is just out the window. This is a bigger shift than anything you’re talking about.

I was listening to MJ and Rick James yesterday, old Luda, Timbo and Neptunes s***
And while I don't really wanna admit it a part of me does feel like music has gotten a little worse as time goes on lol
But I know that's mostly my overall feelings of the world getting worse on some persona 3 typeshit

1. That's a societal issue, not an art issue
2. You don't need to know how to read at a college-level to make great art. We're encroaching on classist territory with statements like this

Crazy as it sounds, old heads in the 70s and 80s were saying that about MJ and Rick James as well. That's what I mean when I say that art doesn't inherently get better or worse as time progresses, it just evolves and changes. 90% of people prefer the music they grew up on in their adolescence

You really don’t think these things have any relation? The societal stuff absolutely influences art
In hip hop specifically I’m sorry but literature is a big part of it and always has been. I’ve always wanted to do more research on how the New York public school systems and their poetry curriculums influenced rap. Melle Mel was writing poems in school before he rapped and you see a similar story with a lot of those guys. I wouldn’t say it’s classist because these guys weren’t upper class but they still had enough art education to incorporate some of those principles in their work. To make great hip hop you have to be able to read tbh I’m sorry if that’s f***ed up. That’s why the new gen doesn’t say anything interesting because they just talk to talk and there’s no story telling, no theme, nothing.
You can just tell that older generations of MCs had a better grasp on basic writing principles. It’s not classist because that was the norm back then. Everyone was more well read and thoughtful just as a baseline

the DAW ruined music and AI will cement that
