My fault I meant the first 3 episodes of season 2 but still. Just remember if Rue is doing some kind of narration or mental dialog about something or someone it's how SHE sees those things not the absolute truth
No you were kinda right. In season 1 they got the lip tattoos in episode 5 but in one of the bridge episodes that they released between season 1 and 2 Rue says it never happened
As far as I can tell, that’s the only instance of something happening on screen that didn’t actually happen that wasn’t blatantly not real… like the how to hide a d*** addiction scene this season
I think the unreliable narrator thing is really getting blown out of proportion
I mean and actually maybe they DID get tattoos and Rue was just lying to Ali

Sam Levinson himself admitted that Rue is an unreliable narrator

But with what??? What has been proven to be unreliable besides the lip tattoo thing and we don’t even know for sure about that one?

The whole show is purposely Trippy to show this

You’re pointing out things that are intentionally and obviously not really happening though?
The whole show is purposely Trippy to show this
Yes but those things are blatantly fake and it’s obvious
That isn’t this discussion, this is about things that appear to have really happened but people are saying maybe they didn’t cause Rue is an unreliable narrator
This discussion started from the discussion of Elliot possibly not being real but the show certainly portrays him and all his scenes like he is.

I’m saying they will make certain things real or not to serve the plot best . I think most of it is real but

O well I was jus posting examples of Rue's perspective playing with the audiences senses and the fact you can't believe everything she is seeing at that moment
The whole Elliott being fake thing is something different, and I don't believe that's true
But for me the fact that the show plays with the audiences visual senses is what Sam really means by saying Rue is an unreliable narrator .
When we see the story from other characters perspectives we don't see moving rooms, dancing montages, and detective crossovers.
Rue's mental illness and d*** addiction makes her perspectives more fantastical and less believable

you live to be a contrarian apparently. there is no evidence that she was lying to Ali
Rue is the one telling the story and she herself has admitted multiple times she’s an unreliable narrator. So all of the wild s*** is definite evidence of her being unreliable. Right when that Spider-Man s*** happened with her going up the walls at the party, she explicitly admitted her depiction of events was unreliable and that it would be a different story if you asked someone else
i thought rue was an unreliable narrator since season 1. i figured it’s why the show’s world seems realistic but shifted slightly into the surreal

I never said she WAS lying to Ali but if you believe she’s unreliable why isn’t it a possibility? And she’s lied to him about multiple things? He would probably view the tattoo as reckless so maybe she didn’t wanna admit to it?
I’m still waiting for examples of her actually being unreliable narrator besides that one little part
It’s one thing if things she says about herself aren’t entirely true but people are pulling other characters into it now and including their stories as possibly not being real and questioning scenes that were portrayed as real but might not have been when they show has made it very clear which scenes weren’t real except for the one single lip tattoo one
Are the special eps cannon?
yea, if u don't watch the special episode, little scenes like when Rue tells off Ali won't make sense
These examples were all obvious
Not my point.
Still makes her unreliable because the s*** we see from her perspective is fantastical
She's the only character who's perspective is like that
this last episode was easily the best of the series. Uncut Gems/Good Time/Safdie Bros-esque
To sum it up: there's no concrete evidence or hints or breadcrumbs to insinuate that Elliot doesn't exist. He's real folks. This ain't Mr. Robot
would be pretty dope if that theory was real tbh. i think that would be the thing that elevates this show above others for people.

At this point im time it wouldn't. Now if they changed a couple of scenes up then sure
They got a theory on the euphoria Reddit about Elliot being a segment of rues subconscious and not an actual real person
https://www.reddit.com/r/euphoria/comments/so3e8n/a_theory_about_elliot/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf
This might be even dumber than that theory about Rue dying at the end of season 1
That would require Rue to be a level of crazy that I don’t see them giving her
Buuut Elliot hasn’t interacted with literally anybody that I can recall, aside from Jules, which is kinda odd and probably what the theory’s based on. Even at the party he’s hiding in a room by himself. Only person outside of rue and Jules I can think he’s interacted with has been his sister (?) that one time.
He interacted with the gas station worker
