i dont really believe that to be the case whitegirl
when i see threads like this i wonder if you are actually trying to find an answer because this is like the last place to look for this answer. especially with the initial responses op's usually give

Its food for thought mainly
evolution doesn't have a specific preference and it's not really something that we can predict. humans prospered without wings. put points into brain power and being bipedal. still, it was not a choice. it's just unrestricted nature
i'll also add that we are very heavy and it would take a lot of calories and nutrients for us to carry our weight through the air via flying. a lot more than it would take us to walk

damn that makes a lot of sense
I want wings
pigs could not fly even if you gave them wings because they aren't slim and aerodynamic enough. they would have to evolve to be thinner lighter and more attuned to flying. at that point they would just be turkeys with snouts
Why dont all animals have wings? Wouldnt that create some great advantage in survival?
to me, evolution isn't a linear thing that opts to give the same exact features to every type of species.. it's about the best traits for survival working with what that individual has.
think about birds or winged insects. most of them with the ability to fly are small. the largest birds, like ostritches, can't fly or can't do so for very long distances.Eventually, you hit a wall where the energy required to lift the weight is more than the body can efficiently produce.
Scientists call this "fitness peak." Once a species starts getting really specialized at a certain skill like being a fast runner or having explosive strength, it’s much harder and not very Adaptive, for that species to suddenly backtrack and try to become an animal that flies.

yeah i kinda don't think @op was asking this in good faith but
he's a PhD in Cellular bio or molecular? (correct me if i'm wrong op) tho so tbf different levels of organization in biology gonna have you focusing on different s***, idk what he studided undergrad tho
your reply is the right answer though in conjunction w mutations occurring randomly and sometimes just evolution being f***y...
"Mutations are considered random because their occurrence isn't influenced by whether they'll be helpful or harmful"
"Lederberg experiment: Showed bacteria already had resistance mutations before exposure to penicillin; the antibiotic just killed off non-resistant ones, making resistance appear to arise from the exposure"

I was proposing this idea to see what people think about evolution (with a few jokes mixed in)
I spend a lot of time thinking about evolution. Im not an evolutionary biologist but i am a computational biologist and one of my dreams is to simulate evolution to study it

that's an awesome dream, it's a big interest of mine too. i really wonder what industrialization would do to the evolution of humans if, hypothetically, we lived millions of more years and never went extinct
Why do you think having wings is an advantage?
Animals with wings usually sacrifice having arms and hands
I don't know if we'd be this advanced without hands
Also We would have to eat with our mouths i.e. develop beaks to be able to pick food up effectivefully

Also the energy expenditure needed to fly with our body size would probably be so high that evolution spent that energy on enlarging our brains instead
