you’re talking about an individual player, I’m just talking about the teams and players in the team which it’s hard to deny that a lot of players today rotate between 2-3 positions regularly every game which should make the game have more standout stars or exceptional rotational players (like White and Pritchard) focused on a lil more which it doesn’t really

Shaq is probably one of the biggest stars in nba history and has a highly specialized skillset

more versatility in the game should by definition equal more stars spread across the league as players today are doing never before seen things on the court and statistically as a 7th man

this should lead to more stars per team therefore a bigger share of the local market which can translate to a national level market when teams meet as opposed to one or two major stars for each division carrying the entire league

pretty much we have like 3 “Shaq’s” at the same time rn (Jokic, Embiid, Wemby) but it doesn’t feel like it nor is the game talked about like that

no one is gonna care that a 7th man is averaging 17 pts per game if ppl are scoring 130 pts every game

Do we have “too much” variety today that nothing appears exceptionally unique anymore?

for example, in the NBA, there is a wrong sentiment that teams are all running the same offenses (because of clip culture and the shift to more 3s) when in reality all teams are running way unique offenses full of multi-faceted players playing multiple positions which should make the game as watched as ever and appreciated, no?

i had this is revelation the other day thinking about the nba. there are a ton of good teams but since everyone is good everyone kinda is unremarkable as a result.

social media made us numb to a lot of this feels like things are less remarkable now since we see the best of everything on the internet

but dawg we have more MVP caliber centers this decade than even Shaq’s era that’s all I’m saying gang

this by definition should have the game being watched more

look at soccer for example. the new stars are being pushed HEAVY and had been even with legends right next to them. same happened in baseball. football had to be forced and they still hanging on to the old QB/coach legends
