Like....some of these replies are proving my point a lot.

I think a lot of the answers to these questions is: "a bunch of westernized patriarchal bullshit"

Because you think about it in places like Italy, you got grown men that will kiss each other on the cheek or even on the lips in strictly platonic fashion and nobody over there bats an eye.

You say good morning to your mans in new york city and niggas will go "ayoooooooo" like...dawg we legit don't even know how to show our own homeboys basic affection.

how many men itt have cried in front of they homeboys
    Oh and extra technicality:
and it's not being around somebody dying or a breakup?

As an italian i gotta jump into this convo to say that despite the kisses on the cheek toxic masculinity still runs rampant in this country and then some. I legit have had men of all ages, of all backrgounds side eye me cause i dared to take care of my curly hair or because i have a skincare routine. Got called fruity for wearing earrings, anything but a shirt and jeans, tucking my shirt in, having a gay best friend, s***'s crazy and honestly i see it in any part of the world, whether western, eastern, global south, first or third world countries.

Might be cynical or short sighted, but i simply think its a product of the millennia of the traditional patriarchal society that has been the basis for like 99% of the world

Masculinity is just authenticity and frame control. If you want to wear birkin bags and drink white claws and lemon drops own that s***. If a girl tells you it's a b**** drink you say "i guess I'm a b**** then". Being self-conscious and defensive about threats to your masculinity is unmasculine
