    I’m simply saying the state of rap is not one where there’s synergy between commercial appeal and artistic integrity

    It’s an inevitability under capitalism

    Most commercial acts aren't even really pulling in numbers like that and they're cancelling tours left and right. They are failing capitalism too.

    All your favorite hitmakers made a lot of money for themselves and their labels, and you all considered it to be the best case scenario for the culture though!

    Flatbush Zombies was my first ever concert when they were touring in 2013 for the BetterOffDead mixtape. That show was so raw. I also loved the Underachievers, wonder how their pseudo-conspiracy s*** would sound today

    The Underachievers still make music these days. They're very...chilled out these days. Like you'll still get raps about sense of self, being aware, weed. But it's not really super third eye wide conspiracy theory raps.

    Their album/EP Homecoming is pretty cool, it's a short project. Definitely sounds like some "Yeah we grown, have money, and have families" kinda music. Fitting for where they're at in life and their career paths.

    no one is intellectually consuming writing on music. you can just listen to music. when music had value and there was a real risk in buying a bad cd, word of mouth and reviews were necessary, if you didn't want to waste your money.

    now, there's not a need to check out a review. you can judge whether or not you'll ~vibe~ with an artist just by looking at their streaming / social media page.

    Sad sad times.

  • Lots out there to talk about, but if you’re comfortable and wall yourself off from new things, then of course the creativity in your discussions will suffer.

    and theres a lot of overlap between people who use the internet a lot and that situation, since chatting online in ur room so comfortable.
