See I’m perfectly fine with someone not including Ye in there universal whatever, but the implication that his rapping is inferior particularly during his “prime” is is ridiculous to me, you can disqualify him for writers but that’s it
His rapping is amazing and I wasn’t critiquing his bars, or saying that he was inferior as an MC.
you said it best, literally the only reason I don’t include him is bc of the fact that he doesn’t write his raps alone (which IMO is nothing to be mad at / ashamed of unless someone explicitly lies about it)
This verse alone is one of the greatest in the history of music, regardless of if Ye was the only person responsible for its writing
Penitentiary chances, the devil dances
And eventually answers to the call of Autumn
All of them fallin' for the love of ballin'
Got caught with 30 rocks, the cop look like Alec Baldwin
Inter-century anthems based off inner-city tantrums
Based off the way we was branded
Face it, Jerome get more time than Brandon
And at the airport they check all through my bag
And tell me that it's random
But we stay winnin', this week has been a bad massage
I need a happy endin' and a new beginnin'
And a new fitted, and some job opportunities that's lucrative
This the real world, homie, school finished
They done stole your dreams, you dunno who did it
I treat the cash the way the government treats AIDS
I won't be satisfied 'til all my n****s get it, get it?
Call Jay Z mid in your own words, but leave him on for being a pop culture and political icon married to Beyoncé. I cannot figure out what metrics you are using to make your top 5 list dude.
You want to take Biggie off the list because he gets too much credit for his “untimely passing”, but leave Pac on because he’s “larger than life.”
What?
Biggie was a better rapper than your fav at 17

even tho he’s obviously massively influential and important, you still can’t help but feel that he never truly reached his full potential. which is saying something, bc damn was he f***ing amazing

Bro was only TWENTY FOUR when he passed away.
Hate all these what if’s because mans should’ve still been here today. Maybe there would’ve been a Biggie weight loss era too we will never know

Some of y’all don’t factor in all time classic singles in the culture and that helps explain some of the stupid s*** said here. Like as legendary as Ready to Die and Life After Death are, a lot of mfs dont really listen to albums like that so it’s easy to be disrespectful or flat out stupid/ignorant with these topics even when keeping albums in mind
But you’re telling me - with your whole chest - that the guy who made Juicy/Hypnotize/Big Poppa/Notorious Thugs etc isn’t top five? The guy with that voice and that flow who worded bars and rhymed that way? Please don’t make me laugh

Easily a top 3 song by Kanye.

They don’t know about Biggie setting the blueprint for rap features on a RnB/pop remix 😑 they think he was a fat boomer in a sweater
It’s the shallow and spineless pop culture-centric criteria in the OP that makes this especially befuddling

That verse and his lyrics on Heard Em Say are just perfection

How when he has some of the most refined rap songs there are?
you're nobody till somebody kills you
what's beef
I disagree
Tbh, if Kendrick had more club bangers and a better voice, he'd probably be above Biggie especially when you factor in diversity of content and substance.
I still have Biggie ranked above Kendrick but I can definitely see the case for Kendrick over him especially if he career keeps going.
Eminem has been dominant for 20+ years
Has influenced top tier artists
Has some of the greatest songs and albums of all time
Put on one of the biggest/most influential rappers ever
Can still hold his own on a track with anybody on the planet not named 3 Stacks.
Get your head out your ass.
Listen, Eminem used to be my literal favorite rapper. But he fell off and time has not been kind to him or his music. It's hard to say if Biggie would've stayed relevant for a time had he not died but his music has become timeless.
Yes, he was influential. So was Biggie.
Biggie literally has two of the best albums in hip hop canon.
Are you forgetting the influence Biggie had on Jay-Z?
Em is definitely within say the top 15 artists of all time but putting in a top 5 that excludes Biggie, is damn near sacrilege.
Em's legendary feature run is over. Respectfully, Big Sean outrapped him in a feature.
