$40 for a record is a new thing, 2 lps used to be less than $30 pre covid, the production costs are literally the same and the technology has only become more in demand in the last few years

there is quite literally zero reason two lps are $60 now except for the fact that labels are weaponizing physicals to extract as much money out of fans buying up sixty different versions of an album as possible. the markup is like 2.5 times the production cost if not more for no reason

It’s definitely a new thing but so is everything else on earth being expensive af. $40 records is prob right in line with inflation.

At least you can easily justify it with a record. You own a piece of music that you can basically have for the rest of your life for $40.
If I go to a mid restaurant I’m spending $40 and that s*** is gonna be coming out of my body getting flushed down the toilet within 24 hours.

Like I get that some people are excessive with the price gouging but when you think about what you’re actually getting it’s not even crazy imo

There aren’t many things you can buy for $40 that will last as long as a record and those other $40 things don’t have your favorite songs by your favorite artists on them.

  • Does this make yall think any different of another album coming? If this is a complete set it gives the sense of finality, or it could just be the first 30 years and not that deep, or it could have an extra spot for the next album to go in like Sade’s set does

    Preach

Mr P & Elephant In The Room are both up there for me
the 'Puppies In A Cup' bit might've genuinely caused my biggest laugh ever

Tried some of his Opie & Anthony appearances as background noise one evening/night when i was doing house admin and he was alright on there (mostly) but them other dudes were so racist/scummy etc. I had to cut it off

  • He need to drop some bangers instead

  • Jay-Z and grifting undefeated

Both dope as hell. I want a CD version. This campaign is dope. Yall hating on the price but ignoring that stuff like this is part of why Hov is the goat. The prestige his catalog holds is unmatched.

if the vinyls were $1,500 and the cassettes are $300, i would assume potential CDs would be $500

I would get the pricing if his entire catalog was out of print everywhere and this was the only way to buy them.

But his entire catalog is readily available on vinyl almost everywhere right now for $30-$40 each with the exception of Blueprint 2, Kingdom Come, American Gangster, Magna Carta, and 4:44 (which has never been pressed before).

So essentially he’s charging $1500 for a fancy crate and four records that you can’t get anywhere else right now, that’s insane

He’s essentially charging $244 per record for the five records that are out of print, that’s insane (especially when one of them is widely agreed upon to be his worst album)

It’s not just for the records it’s for the whole package. It amounts to something greater than the sum of its parts. And I don’t think it’s meant for everyone. For a collectors thing like this I don’t think it’s fair to hate on it that much. Feels like low hanging “hov capitalist bad” fruit

American Gangster lowkey his best album
    Merch is ass

  • 1996 BRL

If he was really about his paper, he would've added an extra/empty slot labelled 'Coming Soon '

Just an empty slot (unlabeled) for both sets would have been cool def would have created a ton of hype

  • 1.5k or Jay-Z crate. i know what you broke mfers gonna do.
