Lakers exit interviews with Rob Pelinka and JJ Redick

Rob Pelinka starts by saying that the goal is always to win a championship and any season they don't do that, they've fallen short.

Rob Pelinka acknowledges the disappointment of not hanging a banner, but reflects on the excitement of the season finding a coach like JJ Redick and trading for Luka Doncic.

Rob Pelinka said there was a lot of "excitement" this season, naming JJ Redick and Luka Doncic as seasons for that.

He added that the "work starts now" to build a roster around Luka that can compete next season.

Rob Pelinka says trying to rebuild the roster in-season after the Doncic trade is like "trying to build an airplane in the sky."

He says a primary goal for the offseason is to add size at the center position.

Rob Pelinka says that JJ Redick brought a "complete revival of energy and work ethic" to the Lakers as the team's head coach.

"He’s a great partner to work with," Pelinka added.

JJ Redick says his first thought coming out of the series is "how can I be better?"

He added he will do a lot of evaluating this offseason to make that happen.

During his end of season remarks, JJ Redick, without naming names, says the roster must "get in championship shape" during the offseason.

JJ Redick: "We have to get in championship shape."

Redick notes some players were in "phenomenal" shape and others could've been in better shape. But collectively, they need to be in better shape.

Rob Pelinka expressed belief in the trio of LeBron James, Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves.

"I think those guys have a lot of promise playing together... We're gonna put in the work to allow that group of guys to win a championship together."

Rob Pelinka says the need to add a center is "clear and obvious" going into the offseason, especially after the rescinded traded at the deadline.

"We just didn't have the time after the Luka trade, but now we do."

Rob Pelinka says a vertical lob threat and someone who can protect the rim are the ideal traits they are looking for in a center, but they will not limit themselves to that archetype.

Beyond the center position, Pelinka says an offseason priority is solidifying L.A.'s defensive core at the wing position

Rob Pelinka refers to Luka Doncic, LeBron James and Austin Reaves as “pillars” of the organization.

Rob Pelinka said the Lakers kept Alex Len over converting two-way bigs Christian Koloko or Trey Jemison III because they think he's a "good player."

Pelinka noted that JJ Redick controls the rotation and whether Len would play.
