having a livable income as a full time musician should not be an abnormal expectation when the music industry generates billions of dollars yearly and it also doesn’t mean one isn’t “living a normal life”
how about we don’t blame the artist and blame the systems that are broken, not the participants who also love the music just as much as you and had the art form pimped

U right, but the practicality is the system is broken, so why put all ur dice into a game that dont even work?

what’s to say your industry doesn’t suffer a recession tomorrow and now you’re out a job for 6 months to a year? there are many systems that can break at any point that we all put our chips into lmfao. musicians should be able to make a livable wage just based on what the labels generate

U right as f***, s*** finding a job post phd has been hell, u nailed it
I've been said and "exposed" all this n more regarding this btw
Since like late year early this year
U right as f***, s*** finding a job post phd has been hell, u nailed it
and with that phd, in order to survive immediately, you might need to sell yourself short on income
kinda like artists selling themselves short by joining streaming cause they have no choice
Spotify’s end goal is AI generated background music so they don’t have to pay artists

F*** it let em do it
They will crumble lmao

They will crumble lmao
No they won’t
Youth already views music as background content. No incentive for a young star and no way for them to own any music
All they know is monthly subscription bullshit
I know KTT2 will claim this is "good for the genre" but I dunno.....
Having a new generation of rap fans completely miss out on the experience of mainstream rappers dropping classics and being able to rap well while having to dig underground for quality just doesn't feel right.
Remember, rock went niche too after the 2000's except for crappy pop bands like Maroon 5, Coldplay, and Imagine Dragons and nobody said Rock was in a greater place than the 20th century because of all the great Indie bands that came out or dropped good albums.
It has to be a nuanced convo where we acknowledge that sales don't mean quality but having at least some newer groups of mainstream rappers be capable of dropping classics or quality music still matters for the genre.
i feel like that’s a good thing? rather it be left alone and become more organic rather than exploited / manufactured by capitalist corporations
Or hip hop isn't making pop songs anymore
Speaking for myself. I feel like the genre moved so far away from “traditional” rapping towards more of a melodic half singing that I became more interested in singers in general. It’s like the rappers moved my tastes away from their own music,
