TPAB & 4YEO comparison never made sense to me

KOD was a straight up DAMN copy tho

It’s just the fact Kendrick followed up his mainstream accessible album with a deep Jazz influenced project then Cole did the exact same thing

I’ve seen people say KOD is a DAMN ripoff but never really took the time to draw any comparisons, Explain it for me

Yeah but I feel like hip hop is synonymous with jazz so I can’t credit just Kendrick for that.

For KOD Cole said he went to a DAMN concert and decided to work on that album because of how inspired he was, I don’t believe it was a planned release.

With how much Cole is inspired by Kendrick I wouldn’t doubt he inspired 4YEO I just personally don’t see it

I know that was always his plan but tbh he's hyped the fall off up so much in the last few years I think at this point people just want to hear that and nothing else

I think it would very unceremonious to drop an album thats supposed to be the cap off his career with a surprise drop after nearly 2 years of silence even with how he hyped it beforehand

Cole directly mentioned the influence in an interview after KOD. But basically both albums have a looser concept with modern trap influenced "bangers" woven between conventional hip hop tracks. Cole was very anti the newer hip hop sound at that time so he basically directly credited Kenny for inspiring him to embrace it. Only thing KOD didn't have have was the LOVE and LOYALTY type joints DAMN. did

I agree. The Fall Off should have a roll out

There’s no standard rollout but Cole been talking about the album with every feature damn near, at least that’s how it feels

JID even mentioned it on his last album. I think at this point we all know it’s coming, just when and for Cole the surprise drop is his thing so idk if we really do get a rollout

But I’m down for one for sure

  • notbrock

The beef put all 3 of them in weird positions for interviews

Cause I know none of them wanna talk about it but it’s what everyone wants to ask them

These three don't really do interviews anyway other than people they close with in a controlled environment if they did ever decide to

Yeah true, it could just be a coincidence but the timing is just weird imo

It's not the platform. It's what you do with the platform.

Tyler always comes with a whole new look. He's a producer too so there's a specific soundscape he's working in. He did the Pop Out and then remixed That Guy and kind of put his foot down as a top dog of his generation. His proximity to Kendrick and Clipse gave that legitimacy. The album was black dance music. There's a lot to chew on there.

What was the JID rollout? I'm really not sure. Besides being a long awaited follow up to something people already liked. And that's kind of how it was treated.

Joe Budden Podcast, Club 520, Complex with Speedy, Breakfast Club, The Shop with Offset who was also on a similar traditional rollout, XXL with Joey Badass who was also on a traditional rollout, AP interview, GQ interview, Apple Music interview where he said he got a 15 song album with Cole, Fallon performance with Offset, Variety interview with Offset

like I said, everyone been doing the traditional rollout and you just proved it didn’t matter cause you still missed all I named above lol so it can’t be a lack of traditional rollout as the reason s*** not hitting

  • Only one who can drop a surprise album in this day and age and it will go crazy is Jay Z

But Mal is one of the worst sources in the entire world. Almost as bad as Israel fake propaganda. Also kill Adam22

Joey tried to make his entire rollout the diss. And it would've worked if the project wasn't ass.

I guess Kevin’s Heart was his attempt at LOYALTY anyway

Cole better give a real rollout with interviews and all if this is really the end.

Just go to Speedy and do a goofy interview, he won't ask serious questions

    Gosh

    Take a breather

That’s not what happened in the video, they were discussing it in the context of IF it was Cole

I’ll even break it down for you

    Lady - I won’t shut up if it’s Cole

Fat f*** mal - if it’s good, when’s the last time yall listened to the singles

There’s no confirmation, they were just discussing the possibility

    Was the video edited then?

    Was the video edited then?

Doesn’t look like it, they just start theorizing once rory makes his Cole guess, but that’s not a confirmation it’s just the natural progression of the conversation

Kevin’s Heart as a title also sound like we have Wesley’s Theory at home

Even the way Cole screws his voice at the end and said “Kevin’s heart” was very Kendrick esque. Like how Kendrick would say “Kesha song” or “Tammy song”
At the end of the last verse or whatever

i mean he worked the platforms as much as you can (6 hours of interview content) and even pushed a single w/ Clipse, i just don’t think lack of traditional rollout means anything or is the difference maker. he got a grammy nomination by doing everything and people still missed it his rollout

What was the last major hip-hop album release to have an extensive rollout?

Clipse had one but idk if we’d consider that major in a commercial sense

Joey was the return of the King of NY picking beef with the west coast and Kendrick.

JID was...doing interviews? You need a narrative. Exposure isn't a narrative.
