It’s still f*** this man for making a disrespectful ass review for one of Mac’s best works and after he died he starts crying at his music. If Mac was alive he would keep trashing it being real. Fake as hell

    Which album did he trash?

    _ _

Craziest thing is that he gave EOS an 8 after that. The audacity.

I knew he'd give EoS a glowing review given his taste

Here's a newer one just for you.

The entirety of this review consists of:

    • Describing the music using repetitive variations on "TFW"-type meme culture.

    • Him rattling off utterly meaningless phrases of vague aesthetic reference points that sound like he pulled them out of a hat: "sour surreal noir jazz direction", "notes of jazz and post-punk and art rock and surf rock /.../ that swirl together to become a grey blaise uniform bleghhh." And per usual, some of these can be so broad that they're redundant: "The very quirky and animated 'Vidual' which is easily one of the most cartoonish and over-the-top tracks on this." Huh...you don't say?

    • Incredibly generic descriptions that could be used to describe millions of songs: "it has a coherent progression and reaches an emotional intensity point thats very satisfying"; "even tracks on here that hit a pretty decent groove or have a nice steady chord progression." And of course, the totally debased classic "doesn't really go anywhere", which is a phrase that ironically doesn't go anywhere any time someone uses it.

    • Repeating words like "compelling" and "engaging" in various contexts without any elaboration. Or ridiculous sweeping statements echoing that same kind face-value, matter of fact assertive attitude: "Debilitating to the performances and to the writing process" — How? In what ways? Care to give any detail beyond that? Anything beyond saying "like on (insert song title)"? No? Oh, okay then.

    • Burping out relatively specific popular music terms that he either uses incorrectly or immediately contradicts in a single breathe: "Numerous tracks that feel like weird interludes or filler tracks — filler tracks on an album of songs like that feel half-conceived."

So are they interludes, filler, or half-conceived ideas? These are 3 different things, with the last one being less concrete than the others and needing explanation. Is he saying that an album of half-conceived songs has half-conceived filler (redundant)? Or the entire album is filler because every song is half conceived — which doesn't make sense even if he used the term "filler" correctly (he doesn't).

Insightful stuff like this really separates the casual fans from the busiest music nerds, amiright?

u got any recs for good music publications? I feel like the music community has been flooded by this style of criticism because of how easy it is to write and makes it seem like you know what you're saying

The fact that he was sooo sure that Kanye was just copying Death Grips, yet seemed to be totally unaware of industrial rap (or industrial sounds in general) or experimental hip-hop before their existence. Artists like, idk, Saul Williams...the guy who made Niggy Tardust in 2008. The guy Kanye was an avid fan of for years, even forcing his way backstage once at one of Saul's shows to ask him "how does he do what he does."

Nah. Just a ripoff Death Grips because... checks notes loud abrasive sounds and yelling. Yeah, I'm sure that's it. 🙄
