not trying to defend the man but fantano probably knows more hip hop than 90% of ktt
And that 10% are the black people on KTT
not trying to defend the man but fantano probably knows more hip hop than 90% of ktt
Yeah I think it's unfair for ktt to critique him for being a casual music fan or act like he doesn't know what he's talking about, esp given a lot of the posts I see on here, but he has to stop letting fame go to his head and acting this embarrassingly. I feel terrible for the poor kid, and I'll def check his music out now.
Here's a newer one just for you.
The entirety of this review consists of:
• Describing the music using repetitive variations on "TFW"-type meme culture.
• Him rattling off utterly meaningless phrases of vague aesthetic reference points that sound like he pulled them out of a hat: "sour surreal noir jazz direction", "notes of jazz and post-punk and art rock and surf rock /.../ that swirl together to become a grey blaise uniform bleghhh." And per usual, some of these can be so broad that they're redundant: "The very quirky and animated 'Vidual' which is easily one of the most cartoonish and over-the-top tracks on this." Huh...you don't say?
• Incredibly generic descriptions that could be used to describe millions of songs: "it has a coherent progression and reaches an emotional intensity point thats very satisfying"; "even tracks on here that hit a pretty decent groove or have a nice steady chord progression." And of course, the totally debased classic "doesn't really go anywhere", which is a phrase that ironically doesn't go anywhere any time someone uses it.
• Repeating words like "compelling" and "engaging" in various contexts without any elaboration. Or ridiculous sweeping statements echoing that same kind face-value, matter of fact assertive attitude: "Debilitating to the performances and to the writing process" — How? In what ways? Care to give any detail beyond that? Anything beyond saying "like on (insert song title)"? No? Oh, okay then.
• Burping out relatively specific popular music terms that he either uses incorrectly or immediately contradicts in a single breathe: "Numerous tracks that feel like weird interludes or filler tracks — filler tracks on an album of songs like that feel half-conceived."
So are they interludes, filler, or half-conceived ideas? These are 3 different things, with the last one being less concrete than the others and needing explanation. Is he saying that an album of half-conceived songs has half-conceived filler (redundant)? Or the entire album is filler because every song is half conceived — which doesn't make sense even if he used the term "filler" correctly (he doesn't).
Insightful stuff like this really separates the casual fans from the busiest music nerds, amiright?
huh outside of the score, i dont even think i necessarily disagree with his take. I havent really listened to the album, so im just kinda skimming through it, but i dont think fantano said anything outrageous tbh
btw hows that a newer one lol thats from 2017, we're in 2020. And also, this man releases an album review each day, seems kinda s*** to discredit him just because you DISAGREE with him on like 5 albums or less
myabe its a case of differing opinions, but i swear, every single review of him that i've watched of an album that i've actually listened to, was always on point, even from albums that i've loved
its obviouly possible that he said some stupid s*** before, but im not discrediting, because i know most of time he knows whats hes talking about and i'll take his opinion over pretty much everyone
Well before this I’d never heard of this 16 year old, listened to the project and I fw it
There’s probably a lot of people who are gonna do the same, he might have caught a W from this rant

What would lead you to believe that
I still can’t believe he tweeted RIP Chadwick or whatever and then dove into this rant maybe 60 seconds later. Like this s*** must have REALLY got to him for it to impair his judgement like that
What’s age have to do with this
Bro tends to act much younger than he is on twitter and is calling a 16 year old names
Bro tends to act much younger than he is on twitter and is calling a 16 year old names
That happens here as well I’m sure
and outside of him acting kinda childish on twitter, im struggling to find the actual problem here
What would lead you to believe that
The man listens to 1-2 new albums everyday and reviews most of them for a living for 10+ years, he probably spends 6+ hours daily on music and in his hip-hop heavy videos you can tell most of the time he knows his stuff
And that's just hip-hop, if we are talking about music overall he probably knows more than 98% of ktt
Man his twitter username to avi correlation holy f***
Do you think he's self aware

Literally nothing in that whole reply concerns any matters of opinion. Everything I said is specifically about his rhetoric and use of sloppy language/objective terms.
Where in that reply do i even "disagree" with his views on the album. Show me. I don't even give any of my own opinions on that album.
It's amazing that even when someone scrutinizes the merits of supposed "critical" writing itself, the perverted and dismissive concepts of "opinion" and "you just disagree!!!" remain front and center in your response.
It's almost like someone who has spent a decade cultivating a persona of patrician taste and authority, while simultaneously saying "this is just my opinion" in every single video, has done so to methodically distance himself from any form of criticism where anything he says should just be accepted as equal and valid. ("He's just like anyone else! Just like us! ☺️")
One might even say that after some time and exposure, their fans would begin reiterating this manipulation 101 bullshit to any naysayers on his behalf.
"Daddy is not better than you or me. Daddy is equal. Daddy is valid. Now Daddy is safe from pseudo-intellectual meanies. I can't wait for Daddy to share more of his wisdom with me. Daddy is so smart."
A perfect summary of "knows-what-he's-talking-about" smart music guy's impact on his viewers' basic critical thinking skills:

Hope he doesn't lose his temper this easily at his wife
omg you a fool for this
