This is pretty much an admission we don't have much to retaliate on. He's not gonna cancel the meeting cus he needs it just as much as China does, and he intentionally set the start date of these tariffs for after that meeting when things presumably could calm down

China has shown the willingness and ability to match tariff increases so going back up to 100% isn't new territory they haven't seen

U.S. can't have TikTok without China's sign off. They're not taking anything. Both leaders and respective parties still have to sort out details of selling assets and China likely keeping ownership of the algorithm

TikTok is pretty much meaningless to China in the grand scheme of this trade war. They know it's basically the end of the road for Bytedance retaining full ownership permanently. They're gunning for concessions on major objectives like Taiwan and tech exports.

Tbf tho the reason people used to push for this was based on a hopeful vision of nice business relations and cultural exchange that no longer existed between our two countries post-2016 and especially post-COVID. You'd really had to have desired living/studying/working there, or its a part of your career is some aspect.
