There was a moment when I was in Texas that has always stood out to me. There was a woman I was close with at my job. One day, her car got repossessed, and she called me for help.

I drove her to the lot where her car was being held in the middle of the hot Texas sun. I went inside and talked to the man while she grabbed her baby. Standing there in my work clothes, speaking with him while she stood behind me holding her child, was a moment I can’t forget.

Something about that situation made me feel a sense of responsibility and purpose that stayed with me.
