Reflecting, I think you’re right. It was missing that HUGE 1st party game announcement. We needed that big 3D Mario / 3D Zelda announcement. This direct needed that Seitch 2 generation defining game announcement. To let us know: “this groundbreaking game is coming soon, please be patient”. Yes we got that with DK Bananza. Bananza is a masterpiece and GOTY material. It will probably be on the top 5 / top 10 all timer Switch 2 games when it’s all said and done, but that’s 1 game at the first 2 months of the system.
We needed at least a tease to let us know “hey, this game is around the corner, trust us that you didn’t waste your money or time on us”.
And there was not a single game in this direct that told us that
Tears of the Kingdom dropped 2 years ago, and we JUST got bananza, there was no way in hell we would've seen any of those 2, and honestly i wouldnt have wanted a tease of Zelda that wouldnt be anything more than a proof of concept. I know a Zelda is coming eventually

i honestly think if they did a good balance of showing off more recent third party games and switch 2 original games (like duskbloods) it wouldve been a good direct.
resident evil requiem being on here for instance is a really good sign since its finally a newer game and not an old ass game like yakuza 0 or cyberpunk
obviously we're in due for a 3D mario but i still dont get why anyone would buy this system just for mario and zelda when neither have been shown off prior and after the consoles launch + the latter just dropped a mainline game 2 years ago
even going as far as hoping for a remake for a 30 year old game (OoT) is even more silly when you know theyre gonna charge full price for that s*** as well

And even aside from Mario and Zelda, what would people have wanted here realistically. Say we get all the games people want year 1/year 2. You then have 5/6 years of small or no releases cause big budget games take a long time to make, and the situation wouldnt change, it would be simply postponed (not that id consider this a drought, no other publisher, console manufacturer or not, has the slate of releases nintendo has got here, which is insane, plus now we're starting to get 3rd party releases day 1 on a nintendo console).
It feels like people are just complaining for complaining's sake, or trying to will the "ps5 has no games" meme into reality even on switch 2.
Its fine if none of these releases cater to one's tastes, but why get a Nintendo console if you don't care about the majority of their releases and don't plan on playing third parties there.
they gonna pay $40 for a re-release yall
Hi im they
Top 3 best Direct announcements:
1. Dragon Quest VII Reimagined
2. Super Mario Galaxy 1 + 2
3. Virtual Boy – Nintendo Classics + the full-blown headset ACCESSORY (okay this was actually brazy as an announcement. Love wild unexpected s*** like this from Nintendo)
Then I realized something.. This top 3 is all related to re-releases, which is kinda tragic lmao, BUT I swear, Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave is my #4 best announcement of the Direct.
Only thing is I’ve never beaten Three Houses and I’ve had that game since launch…
At this point I’m questioning what Nintendo’s strategy is / if there is one with this new console.
The messaging was weird, there was a bunch of spring 2026 games and while there is a few first party games coming out until the end of the year it makes you wonder why there is no first party games coming out from January till March at least...
Perhaps they’re letting their 3rd-party partners breathe by giving some space to FF7 Remake, DQ7 Reimagined and RE9 to thrive?
Nintendo did something similar in 2017 by releasing Mario Odyssey in October as opposed to November since the latter had a bunch of major 3rd-party titles for Switch.
edit: oh and remember the release of Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment was originally slated for 'winter', which covers December to March, and bam, they bumped it up to a November launch.

The Fire Emblem disrespect
Just kidding lol But in all seriousness, FE may not be huge to you, but it is to Nintendo.

re: showing 3D Mario before a new Nintendo platform’s launch
It has happened a couple of times before e.g. Galaxy 1 and Odyssey, but Switch 2 is an outlier cus of Bananza, so asking for a brand-new 3D Mario to be shown off seems a bit premature (Shin Chan if you’re reading this, it’s not a slight against you! I’ve seen many Nintendo fans ask for a new 3D Mario.. when Bananza is right in front of their face lmao)
Wait the virtual boy is $100????
I’d much rather pay $100 for that than a friggin’ ALARM CLOCK tbh

I feel like the flame has burned out a bit for Fire Emblem... Series hit new heights with Awakening and that was almost doubled with Three Houses and after that it has been downhill since. I feel like Xenoblade is far more consistent when it comes to sales.
Let's see, year 1 is really important for game series... Turns them into evergreens

There are multiple games they could bring to this system over a sustained period, and a lot more than what has been announced.. it's not like there would be nothing coming out to release lol
Third party support is weak at the moment. People made a big deal out of Star Wars (which does look fantastic but the more I play it the more I'm not a fan of it) because it was one of very few - on other consoles no one cared for it
I mean look at the 2025 section here:
gamesradar.com/upcoming-switch-2-games
It goes back to the same thing for me.. if you don't have one, would you bother to get one? Probably not based on this so far
Hyping an hour long direct to show the games they did was only setting them up to fail
That said I'm looking forward to Borderlands 4 but seeing how poorly it runs everywhere else including PC I'd be stunned if it is worth buying

Everybody was complaining about it being 30 fps when it can barely hit 60 on a 5090 lmaooo
Switch 2 footage we saw actually looks good

Yeah I'm seeing most people need framegen to hit high-ish numbers lol
Console FOV is basically set to negative numbers too so it's almost aiming down the sights 24/7

The series seems to be back on the right track based on how Fortune’s Weave looks; clean & smooth gameplay polish from Engage backed with a narrative connection to Three Houses.
They fumbled hard with Engage, but you can tell they’re trying to reach the series’ highs again with this new one.
(Path of Radiance when tho?!)

I can't wait for Path of Radiance to release on Switch 2, had to get rid of my old TV and I don't have my copy of the game anymore... And anything under 1080p looks horrible on my new tv (LG C5 OLED)
besides air riders and prime 4 my switch 2 collection gonna be dry for a couple more months
Play Pokémon
It’ll be GOTY
ring fit adventure
Ring fit adventure was the worst purchase I ever made.
Because my lazy a$$ was never going to stick with it.
At least when I spent $100 on the star fox knockoff game Starlink with Corneria ship figurine, I sunk 30+ hours into it
I need a new Star Fox game ASAP
Starlink was such a good game and a full game based around a Star Fox storyline would feed generations 🙏
Star Fox needs the Odyssey treatment please
Or hire an external team like No Man’s Sky devs or Starlink devs
I just need Star Fox in my life
