Depends on what you listening for
I love Chief Keef but I’ve absolutely had to turn that s*** off after about an hour or so and go back to Hov or Ye or whoever. For someone who cares that way about what NF and Logic talking about more than what Keef is talking about that’s not far fetched
Unironically and dead serious Billy woods absolutely makes more interesting music than lil baby lol the f***? Saying that as someone who remembers when My Dawg dropped and fw all those “hard” tapes
It’s hilarious because y’all will die on this hill yet Destroy Lonely or Yeat own fanbase said their last projects were mid and they pretty much did the same s*** they always do. Lmao this s*** funny af
NF and Logic argument is pretty easy to beat
They can both flow sure but aren’t really “lyrical”
Neither of them have bars, quotables, punch lines, good stories, depth or anything creatively interesting (minus some of Logics earlier stuff)
Keef was obviously way more interesting when he came out because the stuff he was doing was actually new compared to ripoff Eminem (NF) and ripoff big 3 (Logic). So really the “but who makes more interesting music” argument doesn’t even work here because there is no modern artist poppin off with something different like Keef back then
Had to reply to you cause I think that clown blocked me 💀
Reminder that destroy lonely/yeat/ken Carson are all riding the coat tails of a millennial rapper and non of them will top WLR
Millennials can’t stop winning
What makes Jordan ward have more depth than yeat?
He mostly in R&B, but he dabbles into other sounds as well, he could do some indie s*** like SZA, some classic R&B s*** like Joyce Wrice, and some Channel Orange stuff like Frank. His lyrics aren't deep, but his songwriting is really refreshing compared to a artist like Yeat
Billy woods, armandhamer and Ka type s*** is just not enjoyable music to listen to imo. My friend shows me honor killed the samurai when it came out and I couldn’t f*** with it.
The main criticism of Lonelys last album was that it was too long but still had some great songs. Idk what Yeat fanbase said about his last album
Enjoyable =/= interesting
And that’s the problem all positive adjectives of rap are boiled down into “does it scare the hoes” or essentially if you could play it on the aux around Young niggas lol
What I wanna hear before or after a night of f***ery or at the club or around some women is not what I wanna hear when I’m smoking or when I’m on a long drive

Good stories, quotables and depth is entirely subjective. “Objectively” their rapping on paper is more technical, more complex rhyme schemes and s*** like that.
And no, I didn’t block you bro lol
Also what’s up with the “new guys don’t care about lyrics so those don’t matter” s***
Have any of all ever actually listened to the lyrics of a song and had them resonate? Had them really make you think or feel? They absolutely matter

Idgaf about music “scaring the hoes”. Most of opium would fall under that category. That wasn’t what I was getting to at all.

Nobody said lyrics didn’t matter. Of course they do. I said that being a lyricist doesn’t matter as much as it did in years prior. Those are two different things
The problem with you guys is that you think that if an artist isn’t rapping over a just blaze beat then they are automatically not saying s***.

I mean kinda
To someone that’s not a hip hop fan hearing Logics story about nicotine might be impressive
But if you’ve heard something like Prom/King by Saba or Duckworth by Kendrick then you looking at that nicotine song like “are you f***ing serious?”
And that applies to all those other factors like bars as well

That’s absolutely not true
JID, Kendrick, Cole and a lot of other artists rap over trap beats all the time and are absolutely saying something

It honestly just seems like you have a problem with beats that aren’t trap s***

That’s subjective lol. Someone who says the kendrick song is better isn’t anymore correct than the person saying they prefer logic.
"they want rap to sound like the same s*** from their times for all eternity, with no improvement, sad."
Nah. We actually just want the new s*** coming out to stop being f***ing garbage. Really not asking for much.
Nah niggas were saying this exact same s*** in the late 2000s/early 2010s
That’s subjective lol. Someone who says the kendrick song is better isn’t anymore correct than the person saying they prefer logic.
But at that point you could say a Dr Seuss book is more well written then The Great Gatsby lol
It’s ultimately subjective but like cmon…
It honestly just seems like you have a problem with beats that aren’t trap s***
Not true. Some of my favorite rappers are Kanye, Hov, Camron, Outkast etc.
I just don’t like how y’all try and s*** on niggas that make music and rap a certain way like they are automatically lesser artists or that they don’t have any substance in their songs. It just seems like I’m more biased to these artists because I’m defending them more when really I love most hip hop
Just the other day I saw a thread saying Durk was “really rapping now” because he was rapping over a “real rap” beat when he’s been rapping

This is getting into a whole different argument but It’s not that hard to understand man
If I asked you which group of artists have more variety of sounds and “deeper” more creative lyrics out of 2 groups
1: Future, Lil Baby and Gunna
Or
2: Drake, Cole and Kendrick
Obviously it’s group 2
Artists that tend to focus on lyrics and subjects seem to understand that for different vibes you need different kinds of production. I think any artist that is willing to try out new sounds and write more complex lyrics is a more interesting artist. A lot of people are also tired of the same type of production on every mainstream hip hop album. I don’t think the solution is just make everyone rap over boom bap stuff but it would definitely be a bit more refreshing to just get something different in the mainstream considering it’s all been very similar sounding for almost a decade now
I also wanna say I personally think a lot of more modern sample based music has more variety then modern trap beats
I see people counter the “it’s just a synth/piano loop with trap drums over it” argument with “sample based beats are just a sample with a drum break over it” but fail to mention that these samples come from a large variety of different genres with different instruments from different years in time
I could make 15 drumless sample beats that all sound completely different because they’re all sampled from completely different genres
I think they would argue that it hasn’t been improving.
Its just different, doesnt mean its bad
It’s surreal to see the change in real time that just having a standard of quality for rap makes you f***ing Bill O Reilly or whatever now.
And f*** these stupid motherfuckers even more because in 5 years when the kids who are exclusively raised off of Ken Carson Yeat Lone and Nettspend are running rap with more garbage they’re gonna feel the same way we feel now lmao. The same way we felt this way about people hating on Wayne or whoever but in a way they were right because Wayne grandfathered where we are at now with the lean, autotune and lack of focused topics during his peak influence
this is a really dope and nuanced take. Like yea I loved Wayne but not all of his influence was positive
Reminder that destroy lonely/yeat/ken Carson are all riding the coat tails of a millennial rapper and non of them will top WLR
Millennials can’t stop winning
I really wanna know what's gonna happen after the rage s*** dies out fr
I like Carti and Yeat but I do wonder

I said this in another thread but being an influential artist shouldn’t always get you accolades
People act like the artist being copied is always some genius that was ahead of their time when in reality most times they just found an easier and lazier way to do this s*** and still make money (I’m not implying this about Wayne, Despite the s***ty people he inspired, He definitely still deserves his flowers)
It got really overblown in the SoundCloud era where everyone realized you didn’t actually need to be good at music to make money from it and starting just looking the part

Soundcloud era was heinous and you can tell cuz a lot of them niggas careers burnt out very fast once their audience grew up lol
Soundcloud era was heinous and you can tell cuz a lot of them niggas careers burnt out very fast once their audience grew up lol
It’s also cause most of them didn’t really build “career’s”
They did everything they could to cheat a way into the spotlight and had no way to sustain themselves once they got there
