Just watched the first episode and it’s a lot better than I thought it was gonna be but feel like the changes to shells town made it a lot worse I know it’s not gonna be a 1 to 1 adaptation but still excited to see how the rest goes

The pace they’re going with makes me think season 2 will probably be just the build up to alabasta.

loguetown, grand line, laboon, meeting chopper and viví. Then ending with them leaving for alabasta. Makes the most sense as alabasta is the first long arc of the series

Nah I can’t do that Lmao

    Goofy ahh show

Like, what does this accomplish that the anime doesn't? I'm watching this, and I guess it's pretty harmless, but it just feels like it shouldn't exist in the first place. They also shot it super awkwardly (lots of strange angle choices), which in turn gives it a very amateurish feel at times.

It's cool, and a lot of OP fans seem to be enjoying it, but I'm curious to see how non-OP fans react to this.

The point of it is to attract people that don’t want to watch the anime, much like an adaptation of a book or even video game.

the point is that oda wanted it and oda got it

idk if you've kept up with the production but oda has been extremely hands on and involved with the whole process. he's very passionate about it and it sounds like he views it as a landmark achievement for him as mangaka.

i haven't watched the first episode yet but from the sounds of it seems like a fun companion piece to the anime and manga, where everyone involved is super passionate and excited. i was very skeptical when i saw the first trailer but everything i've seen since has been enjoyable.

i don't anyone is under the delusion that this will surpass the anime but it's another entry point for people to explore this amazing world full of wonderful characters and stories. while people who are already fans get to see the story in a new medium

i watched the first 2 episodes tonight and here's my thoughts so far

it's seems solid enough and i'll definitely finish it, but i wouldn't call it amazing or anything, but i guess maybe it is amazing compared to other live action adaptations. i don't particularly mind the changes either. i think the things they've changed or cut are fine and don't really alter the story in any major way. i do think the acting so far has been kind subpar though. also i think there are a lot of odd camera and depth of field choices. the sets and locations all look great so i'm not sure why they feel the need to distort them so much. i think the mix of accents is great and it helps create the sense of a really large world and people being from all around it. i also really enjoy the all the action scenes, i think they've done great with those so far

    thoughts on the character portrayals

luffy - i'm very mixed on iñaki. i really don't think he's that good of an actor. a lot of his lines sound pretty poorly delivered and just kinda goofy and not in a good way. however i think the energy and charisma he brings really does match luffy and i don't know how many people could do that. so it's tough cause he nails one half of the role but misses the other

buggy - really really good. he did a great job at bringing buggy to life without going overboard and becoming a stereotypical psycho clown. some stuff fell flat for me but overall great

zoro - my least favorite, i feel like mackenyu's read on zoro is completely wrong. his zoro feels like a cocky jackass and i just dont vibe with it at all. i think he tries too hard to come off as cool in some scenes and his lines end up coming out as rude and unlikable. it's not show ruining at all but its the only major flaw for me so far

nami - easily the best of the 3 strawhats so far. i think emily is clearly the best actor in the strawhats and it really shows during their interactions. i'm really interested to see more of her version of nami, especially as it starts to focus on her more for arlong park

I watch it in german and they have the OG dub cast which makes it way better than in english. the german dub of the anime is very well done too

It brings people who otherwise wouldn't care about anime to check out the anime. Same thing The Last of Us show accomplished.

This feels like One Piece by way of Marvel. Which is super accessible and enjoyable for a lot of people. Already got a friend of mine who doesn't watch anime ask me about how to watch One Piece after this

eh, i suppose the difference is that mackenyu comes off as cold, stiff and kinda emotionless, and i never once had those feelings seeing zoro in the beginning of the anime or manga. right now he just feels very robotic and i think that's down to his ability as an actor
