I can’t think of one bad thing about this and I haven’t had that in a while
Maybe the texts saying how such and such died, prolly would’ve added a tiny spicy flavor of short action cut to show a quick kill off? I mean for the ones that had the suspicious deaths
Altho we get enough kills so it’s not like that bad, again the movie doesn’t feel like a slow burn at all to me
I’m just trying to think of something haha
Man this movie IS a gift huh
i like the usage of the texts, it describes paints their deaths as unglorious with its plain presentation of violent ends, even Sal who had one of those texts but still had his murder shown, is quickly revealed to have been a pointless death, one that could've easily been avoided had frank just asked around. another chip on frank's shoulder that haunts him
@MrYeezy that entire last act was moving way too fast for me too, I felt the runtime trickling away even though it was clearly “slow” compared to the rest of the pacing — the way he emphasized aging after Frank committed what would be his most regrettable sin and focused on him being introspective to everything that happened up until it, his views on current society moving fast, him trying so hard to reclaim lost time with his children. It’s almost like a joke but frank lost his entirely life before he knew it and had been like a pawn ever since he joined the war until now but he didn’t find any remorse he could fully express for his actions. I wouldn’t be surprised if he just legit truly didn’t care and like he said, he feared dying in the war, his only fear in life and at that time during the ending was simply death. He didn’t accept it. He was coping to try and accept the fact he would be gone soon but was even so afraid that he didn’t want to be cremated just on the off chance he had an afterlife. IMO, that nigga is a f***ing demon and one of the most savage anti-hero’s in all of cinema.
It’s crazy too cuz I’ve had so many debates with people about the nuance of what Sheeran truly feels at the end. I thought he truly regretted everything he had done at the end and was just hiding it from others because he wanted to protect his image (“everyones dead. Who are you protecting?” - fbi )
But yeah like you said, it seems like he truly might not have cared. I don’t know if I believe that because it’s clear he is super regretful about what he did to Hoffa since the entire film revolves around Hoffa. Hell, Sheeran literally says he was as big as the Beatles. Perhaps that in of itself is Sheeran wanting us to be impressed that he knew him?
That relationship gets super complicated in the final moments of the film. Sheeran is clearly someone who follows orders and believes that’s how one should live life and that becomes abundant when he says sorry to his daughters even though he doesn’t understand why he should be sorry or when he says he doesn’t feel anything for Hoffas family. Once everyone is dead, he just tries to follow God. I think he’s scared of isolation because maybe that makes him see the weight of his decisions?
Can we talk about how the final 2 lines of Pesci’s character in this are probably 2 of the greatest final lines ever uttered by an actors final performance?
What was the meaning of the fish convo?. At first it was funny but upon this Rewatch feels like it meant more.
“Let’s get outta here. Come on.”

DAWG I felt hurt something about it being Scarface of all people sounding so weak and scared.
Truly a late HoF performance entry

In the context of the story, the guy wanted an alibi to explain to Hoffa and that’s why he talked so much about it
In terms of thematic ideologies behind it... idk

That scene hits close to home for some reason
one of the most notable aspects that jumped out to me on my first watch was the lack of music the last 40 minutes, compared to the rest of the movie which was bursting with songs. my way of taking it is thinking how the glory days are over for frank, they died along with Jimmy, and now he's suffering in silence, awaiting death to take him like it's taken everyone who he was close with

That s*** hurt to watch. The embrace he and Frank share is one of the most intimate moments in the film too. You can tell frank is extremely hurt by what he has to do to him. Everything from Hoffa getting into that car to that moment hurts so much.
Like it feels like he knew he was gonna die that day. He sounds so vulnerable and trusting in every exchange.
Also Pesci reaally in this b**** like aight fools ima give you another classic like it ain’t no thang and I’m out, he’s not even trying, boss

Yeah for the story I got it but it felt like thematically Idk.
Something about Chucky lying about his own bullshit not realizing he's being used in a scheme of bullshit.
Like he lying and they was lying

OH oh before I forget: That shot when Frank gets in the plane and looks at his window and you see Russ in his car looking at window as the plane is about to take off, moving from right to the left
Highkey my fav shot of the movie, i thought it said a LOT but I didn’t see anyone bring it up

@Bad_Finger_Boogie
that was the confirmation that russ was a piece of s*** and frank saw it but didnt want to admit it. russ was just a shadow from that view from inside the plane. staring. pesci played such a complex character so subtly. str8 goat
This makes me feel how I do watching Gran Torino.

Crazy how this movie says so lot in every lines but also shots like that, that’s why it didn’t feel like a slow burn to me, there’s so much to eat from it

facts. one moment that stuck out to me was the crazy joe sequence where he s***s on russ's italy pin. frank calmed it down but you knew it was war when russ's wife touched his back to comfort him but pulled it back immediately as if he was literally heated. then that silence at the table. it was over right then
"You don't know who that is?
"
The final shot of him in the chair through the cracked door
