it bothers me too much sometimes. on the final day of their years long, billion dollar project that they've literally disappeared real people for, the onsite manager for the whole team can be forcibly locked in the bathroom with a nonexistent radio signal and not one Securitas dude can show up to at least call someone? I don't understand.

Also didn't make sense to me how Mark and Helly were able to discuss their plan and Helly was able to slide him the directions to the elevator when they showed earlier in the season that there is another group of innies with similar features to the MDR team watching them on cameras from their computer while they're refining the data?

There's a lot you need to ignore about Lumon's security measures in order for this show to make sense. Doesn't make sense how the MDR team are constantly able to get away with stuff like this

It’s a job at the end of the day not a prison.

A job where they're hiding plenty of immoral/unethical activities they desperately do not want anyone on the outside to discover. It doesn't make sense at all that their security personnel would be essentially 2 people

It's not bad. but the lead up to it is just not up to the standard that we expect from the series.
it's still extremely high quality tv.

I will say, after the forward momentum of S1 and its banger finale, the progression in S2 has been unbalanced in terms of world building, setup and payoff. They're withholding too much imo. I'm 6 episodes deep and don't really know or give a f*** about this lil girl Huang for example

yea this s*** always bothered me just a bit

you can say they’re supposed to be incompetent cause that’s what the show is trying to tell us but idk. Lumon is painted as both all seeing and knowing but also completely operationally inept.

Some of the s*** that slips through the Lumon cracks really doesn't scream "all-seeing eye" company lol. Idk if it's the point but yeah

    Finale is very great

The lead up is kinda whatever but the final is the best episode of season 2

  • On episode 7. I mean it's shot incredibly as always but I'm slightly confused lol

    "They're withholding too much"

I kinda felt this way by the end of S1 I didn't want it to end on a cliffhanger, I wanted the answers to just a bit more of the mysteries

Actually don't know how I feel about S2. It answered a lot but there's still a lot left unanswered and it raised even more questions

The show's losing my interest by just having weird s*** with no explanation until 6 episodes later. And sometimes the payoff doesn't even feel worth it, like "That's it? "

Show is obviously super successful, but I hope it stops at 3 or 4 seasons

    All episodes out!

    Seated

Season 2 was definitely a good watch. 8/10

I'm kinda disappointed that they humanized him more in season 2. I liked him better when he was just their unhinged handler. Actor was really good at playing that villainous role

Milkshake was very unsettling in Season 1.

Finale was good. Innie Mark doing what he did wasn't as abrupt as some other folks said it was? At least not in the sense that folks are putting it. I mean, he found out with the audience what outie Mark was implying with the Cold Harbor mission so it's not unrealistic how he's conflicted, given what we've seen about him leading up to that moment (losing Petey, falling in love what the Helly, also Irving's departure)

Season 1 was perfect imo, pacing-wise. I like when shows don't hold your hand, as long as they dish out answers too and not just serve vague aphorisms

  • So final thoughts:

    Season 1:

    9/10.
Damn near perfect. No notes. It engages with the moral and ethical idea behind severance. Definitely cerebral in an unforced way. High-concept well-executed.

    Season 2:

7/10. It's a good season. It's just focused on expanding on the stuff I couldn't care less about, and at the expense of the pacing.
I genuinely believe that this season suffered from season 1's success. I wouldn't be surprised that Season 1 took longer to prepare than the latter.
My hope is that this show doesn't turn into the repetitive mush about the occult (like The Handmaid's Tale) and actually take its time to expand on the consequences of severance (they're already doing that in S2 with outie Dylan job hunting, and the innies being shown to have a desire for autonomy).
All the cryptic s*** on the cult of Kier is boring/sterile to me and I hope the show doesn't become fixated on this to the point where it's just another cult show. It's embedded in the shows DNA which I don't mind, as long as that's not the "main draw."

the visuals always look great and the story is intriguing

season 1 was really good, season 2 was pretty good

with that said i don’t think this show knows where it’s going and the longer it goes on the more apparent it will become
