The melody for Smile by Nat King Cole was written by Charlie Chaplin

It's the love theme from his film Modern times set to lyrics, Chaplin wrote his own scores

Mama’s boyfriend first got teased at Facebook via a cappella by Kanye.

It was supposed to drop for my beautiful, dark twisted fantasy but it never came out maybe due to the clearance issues. Q-tip showed it during a redbull academy because he helped with production.

Then allegedly Soulja boy was supposed to be a feature. It didn’t fully leak until three years ago.

(One of my favorite Kanye’s leak ever)

Some of the songs on Dark Lane Demo Tapes have intros and outros from IG lives during COVID which were heavily inspired by Drake SXN KTT mixtapes of the songs he premeried on there

Nick Drake’s Pink Moon (along with the rest of his career) went largely unnoticed, and he died of suicide with relatively no fame

Then Volkswagen used “Pink Moon” in a commercial and the rest became history. Sad story behind one of the most beautiful songs ever

Dead, the original vocalist for Mayhem, killed himself in 1991. Euronymous, guitarist at the time, found his body and took fragments of his skull, which were then fashioned into necklaces and allegedly given to people in the scene at the time.

Dead’s suicide note contains the lyrics to this song. The band used them during the writing process of this album.

Ironically enough Varg (bassist) would go on to kill Euronymous in 1994

  • Karen O penned ‘Maps’ as a biographical song about her relationship with her boyfriend at the time. They both toured a lot at the time and Maps is somewhat of a long distance relationship classic for anyone that has been in one.

In the video, Karen cries towards the end of the song, due to her boyfriend actually showing up at the shoot. He was running late and had to leave to go on tour. She didn’t think he would make it, he did, and the rest is history

‘Katy’, the namesake of the RHP classic, is a real person. She and Mark remained close friends until her death in the mid 2000s.

‘Carissa’, the namesake of one of the saddest songs ever written, is completely biographical. Carissa is Mark Kozelek’s second cousin, who actually died in an explosion when an aerosol can blew up in her trash and killed her.

Spiritualized’s 1997 magnum opus is a d***-addled masterpiece. Frontman Jason Pierce has said on record that it is not a breakup album, though this song says otherwise.

In 1995, Jason’s then-girlfriend and keyboardist Kate Radley would leave him for close friend and frontman of The Verve, Richard Ashcroft, with the couple getting married soon after. What followed the tumultuous breakup would be one of the best albums ever made.

Lil B’s ‘Beat The Cancer’ came around as a result of a terminally ill fan suffering from cancer messaging him on YouTube, asking for him to sample Metallica’s Fade To Black for a song.
