Yeah I meant it has that 2000s horror slasher template but then it’s doing these random faux artsy aesthetic shots in between and trying to drag out a first hour that is mostly a bunch of unresolved nonsense.

Also the kills were just lame tbh. Feel like there wasn’t anything visceral here compared to the 2000s horror slashers it tries to be. Nothing as squirmy as watching a murderer snip someone’s ankles or even as batshit insane as that trailer scene in Hills have Eyes. It’s just so plain and boring but using random aesthetic shots in between to look artsy

That’s fair but I can also see Parasite being seen as what Burning or Handmaiden were seen as a few years ago. I feel like western tendencies tend to gas up a big Korean movie every couple years and then we forget the ones before that we’re getting gassed up

Will that apply to Bong tho? Outta the new guys he probably is the most consistent with getting really good reviews and he has a decent amount of popularity to him. I’d argue ppl today know Bongs movies more than Lee and Park.

Plus factoring in all those Oscar wins, that comes wit a permanent buzz.

Also factor in Bong doesn’t only make Korean films, so that makes him more memorable when you working with ppl like Chris evans, Pat rob, Tilda, Jake, etc.

Like I definitely agree that traditional Korean movies do get treated like that, but when Bong announces Pat Rob is in his next flick plus coming off all those Oscar wins, I think it’s safe to say he’s the exception
