Dec 2, 2022Critics list is very odd, directors list is much cooler.
The new inclusions are offputting.Who the f*** are these critics who are putting get out on their lists? Many movies not present here have influenced horror so much more. And parasite is a fantastic film, makes sense to see it, but it also calls attention to how much incredible korean cinema is just not acknowledged by this list. And portrait of a lady on fire at 30!? Can't even be rationalized.
I cannot for the life of me figure out what sort of person would put get out as a top 10 movie of all time.

OPDec 2, 2022JonboiI hear ya. Different crowd. I do understand the idea that these popular films get shine all the time, and I’m sorta stepping on one of the few chances to honor older classics. I just question any list that feels like it conforms to strict standards. To be entirely real, I haven’t seen a lot of the films on the list. I want to. Eventually. But I do notice a lot of repeats from directors. I would have also liked to see the list pull a little more evenly from each decade. Maybe I’d see the vision more if I watched all these films.
The repeats are for ‘old masters’ who I certainly recommend giving a shot. I personally try to always spread the love so I don’t like to see repeat choices BUT I also recognize that the director is only one (large) part of the filmmaking process and that’s probably why they don’t limit multiple spots

Maybe I just can’t relate to the response people have to The Master. Lol.
Never understood what was so hard to understand. Most PTA movies are just stories about some type of system. And then some wild card is introduced to the system. And then the system is thrown out of wack because an almost cosmic attraction gets in the way.Nah anybody can see that TWBB has a more straightforward traditional structure than the Master. Not saying it makes it better.
PTA even said that was his goal with TWBB to just tell a straight forward story, nothing unconventional.
