Integrate the sample database with the streaming library and automate the process to catch uncleared samples
That’s not true
Bigger artists could drop free mixtapes with uncleared samples and not face any repercussions. Now uncleared samples can only be done by underground artists
Also Madlib clears his samples. That’s why he’s actually used some sample packs on recent stuff
Edit: I replied to the wrong post
It’s real in that regard yes but when this conversation comes up that’s usually not the context in which it’s happening
If music fans are talking about what a song’s samples are out of appreciation for the OG songs, that’s not snitching
If they were sitting here selling the samples to lawyers so that they could sue the artist, that’s a different story
Reporting it on WhoSampled is snitching tho
Dude above you just said Hot Water Tank has 8 million streams. I could go post that sample and a lawyer could get an easy check
Another issue is a lot of the time artists don’t even own their music so you’re not actually paying them, You’re paying some greedy label

Ok right about bigger artists. But I think it opened it up for smaller artists. It’s way easier to commercially release sampled music now

This is true but realistically they’re not making much more money from it
Merch and shows still really what matter

Yeah of course. But the fact people can make the music they want to make on their albums is dope at least.
They’re gonna train their AI on this
Not good!
Shazam damn near there too lol. Other day I shazamed a song and it pulled up some bullshit lol
r.i.p shawny binladen discog
Chilllll
We can’t say that artists should get paid fairly for their work and then also say that sample snitching is a thing that shouldn’t happen
Those are oxymoronic statements
S*** never made sense to me. I just hate how people try to take some moral high ground with sample snitching.
When I ask what the sample is, more often than not, especially these days, it's to hear the original song that's sampled because the song that's sampling it f***in sucks ass and the flip was lazy as f***.
Yeah man I'd rather the original artists make money off their song than this wack ass producer making money off it.
I hear you but nah. The sample snitching rhetoric has been a strong movement in hip hop since they started sampling. I can’t say he’s exactly leading a movement that predates him. But I get what you mean since he’s so vocal
It's just such a huge difference between being against sample snitching back in the 80s, 90s, and early 00s vs being against it in the 2020s. Especially when it's from artist who got the means to get samples cleared.
They just being wack.

Wild how modern fans have become so disconnected and ignorant of such a foundational core element of the genre

You’re not answering the question

Oh brother shut up.
Niggas who are making millions are so disconnected from that foundational core element that they don't need to be sneaking and stealing samples like they were back in the day when they were broke and there was hardly any money to be made off rap.
Pay and credit the artists who created the s*** you jackin.

Bro I honestly don’t think you even know what you’re saying

Give one legitimate reason why artists/bands who get sampled should not receive credit or percentage from artists who make money off songs that use their work as a sample.
Mind you, one of the people "leading the charge" on the "stop sample snitching" movement is some f***in white guy from Canada who has likened sample snitching to "gentrification"...
The lack of self-awareness is astounding to say the least.
He’s a sample based producer and it affects him lol he’s part of the genre it’s fine for him to have an issue with it
Man Fruity Loops is here. Premier and Q Tip grew up in a time where it was largely necessary; that time has now passed.
If today the millionaires Q Tip and Premier were stealing samples then thats dumb as hell
This is so anti hip hop it’s hilarious no dawg premier and Q tip chose to sample it’s part of what hip hop is electronic music existed plenty poor people in Detroit were like also not sampling the same time dilla was sampling is an art form and essential to what hip hop is

Well if you read my other posts I said top artists on a major label should absolutely clear samples
I’m more concerned about unsigned and smaller artists not being able to afford clearing samples. The price of getting a sample cleared has skyrocketed compared to what it was back in the day. A small or up and coming artist could never afford to make something like The Blueprint or College Dropout now. Which is absolutely tragic
I gave the example of Danny Brown who actually cleared all the samples on AE and it was so much it put him in debt. Super sad seeing such a unique and creative album lose money like that because of sample clearance
Another big problem I have with clearing samples in general is who the money is actually going to. So many artists (especially smaller older artists) don’t even own any of the material they put out. So you’re essentially just paying a greedy ass label
People itt were making fun of Craven for calling sample snitching gentrification but it’s lowkey kinda accurate. Only the rich label backed artists can sample and do whatever they want while smaller artists won’t have the budget to do it legally

Have I literally not been saying artists who have the means to clear samples should clear samples.....
