Also holy s*** it’s been 10 years since TFA came out??? Wow

It was seen as a "return to form" by the critics at the time but with TLJ and Rise I think it earnt some retroactive criticism

i loved it from the moment i saw it in theatres but the disappointment with how the story played out did ruin it a bit

movie still has a lot of good things in it but i don’t wanna watch it again lowkey

It felt like they had a plan

They definitely didn’t but it felt like they did in TFA. RJ’s vision just kinda f***ed the whole trilogy even more than them not having an overarching story. Woulda been better off having him make the start off the trilogy rather than the middle

What a disjointed mess the sequels ended up being

I think criticism of it being basically the same thing as ANH is fair. Doesn’t necessarily take away from my enjoyment of the film but I can definitely understand that one

Also keep in mind Rian Johnson was offered to make episode IX but he was burnt from the making of TLJ so he passed on it.

Beforehand Colin Trevorrow bombed with "The Book of Henry" and then sadly Carrie Fisher passed away and it seems they couldn't crack the right story.

JJ was the safest option to make sure Episode IX made the December release date, sadly rushing the process

The leaked script for the Trevorrow film if it was real sounded great. Damn shame how the sequels ended up. JJ gets a lot of flak for his mystery box approach to TFA but there were so many interesting places to take it after. We got the most mediocre way everything could have played out

Classic case of Disney and Lucasfilms prioritizing money over quality tho with how Ep IX got rushed
