Dec 20, 2020BabaláwoAlways been my issue with Star Wars, and why I feel overall it’s a rich universe with mediocre stories. Unless you’ve played some of the games, it’s very black & white with its presentation of Empire vs Republic/Rebels. Evil vs Good. There rarely ever give you as a viewer any actual reason as to why you might root for the Empire other than “they’re cool bro”. I’ve read a decent amount of SW comics and even in those I can’t really remember any Imperial citizen that wasn’t an aristocrat, that actually liked Imperial rule, or gave any reasons for why a soldier would fight for it other than not wanting to be oppressed n killed
The battlefront 2 campaign had some flaws but the first half where you play as the imperials was super interesting. Being able to see imperial cities, fight the rebels, and watch the death star explode from the imperial side was what I’ve wanted from star wars for a while. Was cool to see some imperial soldiers turning on the empire when they realized they didnt support what they were doing.
You’re completely right about the good and evil being super black and white, especially in the original trilogy, and im glad theyre fixing on that a little

Because Vader and the Empire was directly modeled off of what Hitler and the Nazis were fantasized to be if they took over the world, either you became a slave citizen of his regime or you became a tool/soldier of his system

Yeah in the moment everyone got hype, but in retrospect Luke being the jedi was such an obvious, pandering choice.
