I thought this too but searching "taylor deepfake" works fine. If the filter was set up back then, you would expect it to catch that phrase too

After doing a little research, I am almost certain this is a new filter and not a holdover from when the deepfakes were being circulated in January 2024.

    • Twitter did institute a search filter when people made deepfakes of Taylor Swift, but all they did was block people from searching the exact phrase "Taylor Swift" with or without the words "AI" attached. This was a poorly-designed filter, for instance, you could search "Swift Taylor" and get results, as remarked on in these contemporary Tweets:
    • The filter was removed at the end of January 2024.
    • I can't find any contemporary evidence that the specific phrase "Taylor AI" was blocked back then. If they didn't even have a separate filter for her first and last names, do you really think they bothered to filter variant terms like "Taylor AI" and "Swift AI"? (Yes, "Swift AI" is also currently filtered, despite several AI startups using this name).

    • The search terms "taylor deepfake", "taylor nude", "taylor naked", and "taylor p***" are not currently blocked, nor are the variants of these searches using her full name. If this was a filter originally set up in response to the deepfakes, you would expect it to block these terms too.

    • In April 2024, before Tortured Poets Department dropped, Twitter temporarily filtered the search phrase "taylor swift leaks", presumably at the request of Taylor's team. This filter is no longer active. This shows that Twitter regularly updates its list of search filters and removes them when they are no longer considered relevant.

If any of you have a line to the Charli XCX stan accounts or whichever stan twitter brigades are leading the charge against Taylor right now, please send them this info so they can counterattack. Taylor stans are running with the narrative that this filter originates from her deepfakes because it turns the conversation back to Taylor Swift's victimhood, their favourite tactic. Having deepfakes made of you is terrible but there is no correlation here. This is clearly a new filter.
