trust me i know where these places are. i live in nyc.

i do not feel like referencing the greater metro areas population in this comparison is valid as none of the places you mentioned use the MTA

young fashioned only used those numbers to make his argument more compelling.

masses of people from those areas take the mta daily why would i not include them and even if i didn't, the population is still nearly triple berlin's so my point still stands

Honestly the arguments I’m reading ITT are making it seem like NYC as a whole and the people in it are beyond saving.

Anyone has info on what happened? I know it was a shooting, but I don’t know much because I was trying to get home

Was literally stop away from that station when s*** went down tf

    S*** hit close to home

They’re still looking into it. I was on a train near union square when I heard about it. Stay safe Brodie!

Idk I wouldnt expect law enforcement funding tho
    Who did this, why

in a city where over 1,000 police officers were added to Subway duty this year, it's pretty obvious why this is the discussion yes.

"who did this and why" is just speculative at this moment there's no reason for it

Bro someone is gonna be less likely to randomly push an old lady down the stairs or shoving a woman into an oncoming train if police officers are literally standing right there

If nothing else at least they’ll be apprehended immediately

In what way does having officers on the platform hurt? If you can’t answer that then there’s no real reason for them not to be there. It just makes sense

They said this about school Shootings too. The cops there didn’t do anything to stop them. Movie theaters, malls etc. There’s been times the cop ran away. What then? You act like police are the marines ready to give their life for anything and went through intense physical training. It’s a cop.

Are they? Especially in new york

Absolutely. It’s also about public perception of safety

Women and the elderly do not feel safe on the subway rn. Especially Asian women.

More officers on the platform helps put their minds at ease. That alone is worth it.

It hurts because that budget should be put elsewhere until the laws are figured out to allow police to do their job to begin with. If they can only intervene after a crime has happened it's not prevention. At that point you're burning money. Most crime at this point is happening in sharp moments on subways or in like hit & runs. What if a cop leaves the post to chase someone down who just did a crime and then someone else commits one? This is the actual rate of crime we're talking about here. Current NYPD strategy legitimately cannot legally focus on prevention, they are legally required to only be responders, making their presence almost a waste of time. I'm sure police presence will stop petty crime, but most of this stuff isn't petty crime
