idk what to think about sales numbers anymore. i mean obviously the metrics are different which is fair and needed since the consumption model has changed, but i feel like you have 1 group of people saying "these #1s that peak on release week and then fade aren't true hits" while you have other people saying "radio play should't make a song go #1 since that is controlled by corporations - streaming data is the true marker of popularity".
ultimately who cares. the numbers have gotten more complicated because media consumption has gotten more complicated. it is what it is
The numbers aren’t complicated at all if you know what to look for. People just choose when it matters based on whoever’s on top at the moment
For example, there’s people in here that called gnx “the biggest rap album of the decade” but it’s now charting at 98 on billboard and is being outcharted by 9 Drake albums. Anyone who knows anything about how the current charts work is not surprised by this because of the importance of streaming on an album’s long term success. People twisting the numbers to push narratives or just being ignorant doesn’t mean the numbers are complicated. Just means you gotta use your brain

Those Drake albums are re-peaking because Drake just rolled out and dropped three albums
Back in July 2024 when NLU was popping off, GKMC and DAMN. were outcharting every single Drake project

It’s all fugazi regardless
Radio is paid for, pure sales are gimmicked, and streaming is heavily manipulated
Ultimately the fans are just gonna defend whichever one their favorite artist benefits from the most
The lack of satisfaction over who’s really dominating just proves none of these mfs are Michael like ppl claim

or it just means men and women lie. the numbers tell a clear story
It is bro
1. GNX
2. CLB
3. My Turn
Stop arguing in here about GNX being the biggest hip hop album of the decade. S*** isn’t even top 5. Its deadass a dumb low IQ argument that only Shaleirose believes. How tf does performing at a superbowl and being a star doing a tour have to do with the album. Nothing. The only thing that does is streams. Its performing worse than MULTIPLE 2020 releases that came out before it and created NO iconic moments from just the music itself. The hottest thing he got of that album was heinz tweeting “MUSTARDDDD.”

Oh wow. You mean during Kendricks biggest career moment when he was doing superbowls and beefing with the biggest rapper of all time? Ofc his catalog would jump. Drakes albums been outstreaming and outselling all year before he rolled out iceman lmao.
its like shaleirose calling gnx the biggest rap album of the decade when none of the numbers support it
GNX still the biggest rap album of the 2020s, debate a wall
I understand and respect you liking the album. I just want to know why you’re dying on this hill constantly when there is multiple albums outperforming it from this decade. Its just stupid to argue it
Actually, a lot of the numbers and accomplishments it achieved support it, but y’all won’t acknowledge it because it’s a Kendrick Lamar album

charts now measure the most consumed song of the WEEK. People just need to stop extrapolating that out to mean hits.
Prior to streaming, charts still didnt mean hits for rap music. Since radio was so strong. A lot of rap hits pre streaming didnt chart or chart high.

bruh my turn like 15 spots under it on B200. its not bigger than my turn (unless you arguing globally). and it wont have the legs of clb.

#13 weeks at number 1 is no slouch though. thats iconic in itself

Back when a Hot 100 #1 for a rap song meant it was a mega MEGA smash all genres
