I tend to forget to let them know where I'm going and miss curfew. I tell them that I have work but I always forget to tell them when I'll be home. There are times after work where I hang out with friends but I forget to tell my parents that I will.

The last week that it happened, they got so mad at me they ended up locking both of the house doors and I had to sleep in my car for the rest of the night.

Better to be grounded by parents than be a wage slave to a landlord

Only 2 reasons your parents would do this:

    1) they feel you are a detriment to yourself

    2) they're batshit insane

I think it's the latter. But it might be an heightened version of concern.

I'm clearly creating a path for my life and making my way through college. If I was a detriment than I would not have taken the opportunities and internships I was given.

Communication is very important bro, they don't run a hostel, the LEAST you can do is be like "Hey im staying out late with my friends tonight would you mind keeping the door unlocked" it's that easy and just simple respect

yeah but at the same time how they not gonna give bro a housekey like

still living with your parents in your 20s is kinda crazy, now imagine being grounded by them

it's really not, it's only getting more common as capitalism continues to kill itself. i live alone btw

I agree but different parents have different values and maybe he hasn’t communicated effectively enough why he should have one

But yeah I’d be out, I left home at 16 tho

Yes and no. I try to tell them how I feel about things but it goes one ear out the other. So, yes I do have trouble communicating with them considering how difficult and frustrating they are. They change goalposts alot.

I guess I'll have to be even more accommodating but I do feel they have a controlling issue.

    You right

idk the dynamic u got or how they raised you or whatever, but if they can't do that for you that's just abusive imo. if anything it might improve your relationship with them as they start to actually see you as the adult you are the more you assert yourself

Some sheltered americans that clearly have never lived economical hardships itt

The age of moving out is going up in every country in the world

The economy is horrible and the pricing to rent/get a house has shoot thru the roof lately

They might, might be time to get 3 roommates and rough it out but I promise you until you live alone you always gotta deal with somebody
