  • talking more about how an album is sequenced more than the quality of the songs itself

for example, rihanna singing "its hard to be humble" at the end of loyalty from kendrick's damn seems like a pretty perfect segue to humble but instead the next song is pride, you can def make the argument this makes sense thematically however

another kendrick one actually: mr morale and the big steppers being called that but disc one is the big steppers and disc two is mr morale, kinda annoys me a lil bit

at the end of the day this s*** doesn't matter that much but i find them interesting to think about

That's because you are supposed to listen to Mr Morale backwards.. it will reveal new topics

DAMN is specifically sequenced with opposing themes coming one after the other

G herbo, Survivor’s Remorse is a perfect example of this. I love Letter To Juice, but Outside Looking in would’ve been an incredible outro

the entire concept of DAMN is duality in nature which is why it transitions from Loyalty to Pride, you dealing with a Gemini, s*** is never linear lol

he goes from saying I need your loyalty to being too prideful to open up to his partner back to reflecting on his desire to be humble right back into lustful desire at his newfound mental

it’s a trip in how he keeps going back and forth between recognizing his faults and proudly engaging in the faults with his lover and traumas as the catalyst for the repetitive cycle

the sequencing makes sense if you view it that way, not from the literal placement of lyrics lime Rihanna saying that at the end of the song. it wouldn’t make sense for him to go from singing to his girl to telling her now we just need to be f***ing humble lmfao. there had to be the trigger in between built upon his pride to open up to his partner when in need of some loyalty and instead getting stuck in that repetitive cycle of humble and lust. which is interesting cause lust plays on reversing the beat

anyways, I’m rambling. long story short, Kendrick been tryna show us the duality in his nature within his love for Whitney and/or Compton within his albums and the repetitive cycles both kept him within due to not facing his traumas

More than a little bit but Donda Deluxe is the worst sequenced album in the history of music, so much so that it stains the original.
