so why buy this instead of a pc? You can get a pc thats better for that price

This I don't understand the appeal of this at all, especially at that price point

I might have to go this route cause the prices for these valve products are absurd.

That being said, I bought the LCD AND OLED Steam Decks and sold them both, maybe handhelds aren't my thing

Yeah, I think I have the same problem lol. For the most part, I'd rather just play games at my desk, but I find handhelds to be very cool. Had an LCD Steam Deck, wanted a better screen so I got a Legion Go, but that felt just too bulky, so I opted for the tablet + telescopic controller. It works really well for streaming. Basically 1600p + 120fps on anything I want.

Not gonna say it's perfect since you've gotta get a telescopic controller so it doesn't have that "all in one" feel to it, but it's not the end of the world, especially when you have a 9" OLED screen lol. Though booting into Steam Big Picture mode (or Playnite) makes it feel like you're on a Steam Deck.

Part of me is wanting to get an Odin 2 Portal since it's more compact and is an actual handheld for streaming. Absolutely do not need it, but it would be cool to play around with...

It is definitely something to consider though. The fact you get the utility of an Android tablet out of it is pretty nice as well.

The valid 'pro' is that it's compact, their driver actually managed to squeeze a little bit more out of the weak hardware than normal drivers (based on benchmarks in the GamersNexus review), it would be 'easier' to use if you are a Steam user

The goofy 'pros' are: it's made for Steam thus the ecosystem 'you' are already locked into is ready and waiting for you, cult of Steam/Valve, it's easier than deciding what to buy/build (iPhoneification of Computing)

Cons: it's essentially PS5 tier performance but released 6 years later and at double the price, the Memory, Storage & GPU crisis is affecting computing hardware too much for this to be sold at a good price so it is relying on its brand to push it over the top

They released Steam Machine's last decade & they flopped too, this might do a bit better but I still expect a flop

For anyone thinking about getting this who can do a pinch of tinkering or tutorial following, maybe get an AMD BC-250 for like $150, parts & some sort of case instead
