Imagine 30 years from now we discussing the greatest albums of the eras and someone mentions lil baby and gunna work, when people are bringing up legit classics from 90s-2010s

“Recommend me the best mainstream rap albums from the 2010s and 2020s”

“For sure I got you, check out GKMC, 2014 FHD, TPAB, and DS4EVER”

Do you genuinely believe that in the year 2026, Lil Baby, Gunna, and 21 Savage are up-and-coming artists?

Is that something you genuinely believe?

you asked for artists that debuted 2018 onwards, I listed them and their albums, about 40 of them.

now you shifting the conversation to some other s***. those 3 artists are currently this generations leaders, THEY ALL HAVE BARELY REACHED 30

when Kendrick turned 30, these niggas were COMING INTO THE GAME, the genre just became theirs this decade and yes, in the last 5 years they have been up and coming to the point of being fully established today following their independent successes as young artists.

I specifically asked for artists that debuted with the past 5 years numerous times and you’ve yet to name one

You legitimately did not name a single one that debuted at any point between 2020 and now

Not true however Lil baby can cook on a verse, but he lacks the ability to make a cohesive album. His best album is the collab he did with durk

We’re essentially saying the same thing but for different reasons. You’re saying it because you feel the talent is lacking. I’m saying it because the nature of hip hop changed

    I think it’s both tbh

The nature of hip hop changed which made it acceptable to lack talent and skill

Lil Baby is best when he’s a feature on someone else’s song

His own discography overall is extremely average

I think that’s just a generational thing across all mediums of entertainment today man

most people today just aren’t nostalgic for a time they never experienced, entertainment from said time, and do not care about history. like I said before, the MVP of NBA 2 years in a row said “I don’t watch basketball or care outside of playing”

I was watching a game the other day in a different sport, one of the players happened to strike a pose like his teams legend. they brought it up to him, he said
“I guess? that’s cool. always honored to be mentioned with greats” lmaoooo they don’t care today man. it’s corny to be a geek about history today, just do you is heavy rn

The simple answer is fatigue. We’ve went lord knows how many summers with rap music being the best modern genre and if I’m being completely honest you’re expecting rappers like “lazer dim”, “destroy lonely” “Che” etc to carry the genre when the reality is all of those types are horrendous and only popular because white people allow them to be. Currently white people are the primary tastemakers in rap music so everything you consume is thanks to some 13 year old TikTok obsessed 6 7 spewing suburban child. Every legacy rapper is washed now too so it feels underwhelming when they drop. Travis Scott is literally 40 years old.

It caused a generational divide the genre had never seen before

Not only did it toss out the idea of respect for the craft, It actually made it cool to disrespect it

Now here we are in 2025, No promising generational talents, No new superstars, A million kids on the internet doing their best Carti impression and white hip hop producers calling soul music “unc s***

  • Man we used to get multiple classics a year. Now..shit maybe 2 a decade
