but I mean as a rapper he seemed to be middling talent compared to his peers (he was in the same XXL freshman class as kendrick lamar, YG , meek mill, big krit and cyhi de prince)

I bolded big krit cuz he's a dope rapper that just released an interesting project rapping singing and s*** but we aren't raving about it the way we exalt mac's work

(big krit is a better singer on this track than anything Ive ever heard from mac too, just my opinion tho)

I agree with the points on KRIT he's severely underrated and overlooked considering his output.

On the topic of white mediocrity we'll have to agree to disagree on that one. Also I don't think he was applauded for his rap skills that much, from what I've seen he mostly got praise for his content and projects. The only time I remember his rapping being hyped was when he started hanging around TDE and OF in the Watching Movies era.

what you’re stating is weird because literally every artist that has appeal has a story that ppl can latch on to

why does Mac Miller get singled out for that in particular? that is a factor for what most ppl call a great artist actually

Weird thread. Post-KIDS Mac was obviously incredible, regardless of the caliber of his earlier material. It just made for an even cooler career trajectory that he became so much better.

Facts I didn’t like Mac at that time but he was nooooo where near as bad as them Hoodie Allen dudes

I never heard his earlier output and I like his later projects. I remember writing him off because he was a white rapper but I gave his music a chance and liked it. He's not the greatest singer nor rapper but he's dope and can make some touching songs.

ill say some of his music is prob better than just decent & i enjoyed some of his projects when i was younger but i think all the points in OP are correct
