it took itself too seriously and it feels voyeuristic af, plus most plotlines are awful

WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT season 1 was fire. The plots for each character was so interesting. The only plot that annoyed me was Rue and Jules relationship. The upside to that plot was that it forced Rue to grow up and realize she can't depend on d**** to run away from her problems.

Nate is a great antagonist. He literally makes you hate him from his first introductionary scene despite them telling us his backstory and why he's the way he is.

I loved how Lexi was used as the glue character. She did her best to try and hold everyone together.

The characters plots were all soooooooooo good.

Season 2 starts strong, but man.........

hmm i didn't really enjoy lexi's role in s1 bc it felt directionless but the play plot in s2 recontextualizes it a bit (even if the play itself is still a miss and took up 2 episodes for some reason)

apart from that fez was still underdeveloped, kat's plotline was terrible, they didn't know what to do with cassie (and still don't), mckay's plot could have been intriguing but there wasn't much to it, for maddy they set up this abusive relationship just to drop it, and the whole s***tape s*** was lame to me even tho it set up nate as a great villain. i agree about rue and jules yea also because the beginning is rushed, rue repeats like 100 times how jules is this amazing person and we barely see it

in the second season some characters like cassie (at least she has some funny scenes lol), jules and kat still suffer but overall i was more satisfied with character arcs, with maddy having to confront the past and ultimately moving on, nate facing his father and taking revenge without any redemption, ashtray's upbringing dragging him and fez down, cal's introspection (it was kinda rushed tho), lexi deciding to stand up for herself and reconnecting with rue..

Lexi role is to be the voice of reason for these chaotic high school kids. This was heavily shown throughout the early parts of season 1 when she tried to be the voice to get through Rue using d**** again. She also protected Rue on the first day of class when the kids was making fun of her. This is shown to the max as it gets closer to the end of season 1 when they have the Halloween party and she is running around trying to keep everyone together. Like where she protects Cassie who was upset at her boyfriend and was about to sleep with the guy that's obsessed with her and manages to re-direct McKay elsewhere. Lexi knew her sister was wasn't going to listen as she wasn't in her right mind. So the best course of action was to not let her sister get caught(Something a High School kid would do). Then the scene when she was trying to help Rue get Jules to go home, or how she tries to get Kat to not sleep around at the party.

I think you missed episode, they setup the abusive relationship plotline, but it wasn't just dropped. Maddy began to realize what everyone was telling her how an abusive relationship is, it also went back into how Nate doesn't know how to handle his sexual cravings that's when he starts to cheat on Maddy with her best friend Cassie. It's not that they don't know what they want to do with Cassie, it's the opposite. Cassie's entire plot deals with the fact she has depression and has anxiety over being alone because of what happened to her father. McKay telling her to abort the baby also feeds into that plotline that nobody wants her. When her and McKay break up she finds comfort in Nate. Cassie, just like Nate doesn't know how to stop her sexual craving, she uses s***as a way to not be alone and that's why Season 2 setup that they're meant for each other in a twisted way.

I don't think Kat's plotline was terrible, I thought her plotline was the most interesting as it deals with the popular, yet least attractive high school girl's craving for attention in the eyes of boys and men. Something a lot of high school girl's go through. If I remember correctly she's self-conscious because she use to be very slim and pretty until a summer vacation where she came back 50 pounds heavier. So she tries to sleep around to prove to people that she's not this shy quiet girl, but a monster.

The s***tape part I thought was a great way to tie the main character back to the main villain. It was a interesting spin as Nate and Rue really had no interaction before that while they were setting up plotlines. It made everything go full circle.

I don't think McKay plotline was meant to be taken as a main plot as he was just a minor character that helped drive Cassie plot.

i mean yeah but she just pops in and out so she felt more like a recurring plot device than anything else. think this was meant to keep her grounded which they could do while also giving a plot of her own, but again this role as an observant comes full circle in s2

there was the montage w/ the kids watching a psa about abuse relationships in class and there were her friends trying to talk to her but after that in the rest of s1 they just went back to them playing games on each other w/ no introspection whatsoever. i think cassie could really be a great character but it feels like levinson is more interested in jerking tears outta sweeney and sexualizing her to be empathetic towards her, it's not that her arc or her choices don't make sense it's that it needs another type of direction. also the abortion stuff was p rushed but the aftermath with her "falling" for nate was good, even tho then it goes back to voyeurism

ya that's the backstory but kat's plot was terrible because it glorified child p***ography with the rock music montages after posting on p***hub or whatever also she's rly annoying but thats just my personal feelings

yeah it did, it's what drives the whole show but i was like why we gotta spend this much time on child p***?? in s2 it mostly disappears and it's much better as we get to know cal more and nate is confronting his feelings for jules

no you're right but he was the only character w/ any ambition and the whole broken dreams part could have been interesting but
