sometimes just the op is enough
Yeah but she’s completely full of s***. The reality is people just don’t care about electronic music like that. The industry never sank its fangs into the genre.
Reality is she’s one of the top 2 electronic artists that have been pushed this decade. Reality is she played at Glastonbury. Reality is she’s a pop star and wanted to say something to get into headlines.
If she really cared about the struggle then she could’ve used the platform of the interview to give examples of others who struggle with her.
But people like Jayda G are beloved and have gotten to play at Movement, boiler room, etc.
!https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=8kIsJjnc8PQ&pp=ygUHSmF5ZGEgZw%3D%3DI dont believe she's talking solely from a commercial sense and is including things like people dont even think she makes electronic music. And her having all this success was pretty much her point and she acknowledged it
“I’m in a very privileged position musically,” she said. “But I can feel a little bit like I’m hitting all these markers and it still feels like I’m getting overlooked, simply because there’s a lot of people that don’t necessarily understand what I represent, nor do they want to take a look because I think it just doesn’t make sense for them.”
But nevertheless even if u think Pinkpantheress that doesn't detract from my larger point in that post
Playboi Carti & Kodak Black have huge fanbases who acknowledge and look past their abuse
And ? It was still a lot worse in the 90s

Yeah I’m fine with the larger point but Pinkpantheress and the electronic music scene do not belong in this thread.

Why tho ? Especially in the context I brought up the electronic music scene (pink pantheress aside)
Forced TDE cornball that can’t rap
empty buzzword that say nothing about her actual music

@op The early 90s had an interesting push and pull cause…you had 2 live crew, uncle luke, snoop dogg, just…brimming the streets with misogyny
You also had Queen latifah (unity) and yoyo (you cant play with my yoyo) doing songs about female empowerment (shoutout to Ice Cube for putting a song like “Man’s World” on his 1st album. That was a real nigga move he did and pretty much put the gender wars of that time in audio form)
And also Pac with “keep ya head up” which might be the most male feminist song that didnt come off preachy or “try hard” but just literally telling it how it is:
when brothers make babies
and leaving young mothers to be the pappy
Like sidebar: really think of how painful the process of childbirth is and now go back to these actions and that s*** will really make you angry dawg.
And you could say that “push and pull” was inevitable and women were gonna pushback against what was a rising narrative.
C Dolores Tucker wasnt wrong but she was missing a whole lotta context which alienated her message from the Pacs of the world.
While this is true the 90s was also significantly like way way way more misogynistic and these were exceptions to the rule that had to fit specific boxes for respect and while pac did that mans also regularly were ok with sentiments endorsing abusing women, and dehumanising and belittling rape victims as part of the hyper masculine thing, and violent extreme homophobia couldn’t exist without misogyny.
But yes this was integral and often looked past as a cool aspect of the 90s
1 song from 3 years ago mind you
look i dont think shes the worst artist oat or anything but most other contemporary (lets not even get into other eras) female artists clear her several times over. the attention she gets is not congruent with the music she's putting out. its clear people like her because she "presents" as being a more serious artist than many of her competitors, which i think is then fair to critique on the grounds of not being that interesting for.
