  • nah, its just not the dominant thing over everything else its a section just like everything else

doechii is one of the most commercially sucessful new artists

and a lot of good rapping is dismissed as not good rapping just because the flows and presentation (vocal processing etc) are just newer and dont come off like some lyrical s***

  • Benny Boy

They're putting out music. Why do I care about the commercial performance of guys who aren't pop stars? I listen to rappers who never made any money

  • SHORT BUS AVE STAN

I just looked it up, this guy is 27 LOL

I don't think that's considered the new gen

that’s still gen z he started dropping 2 years ago

  • Yk how mad I would be if I don’t even get to be called a new artist after it takes me a few extra years to blow up

idk it just sounds like s*** I’ve heard before, like what Yachty was doing on the RD era on SoundCloud lol on the birthday mixes. I feel like niggas are inclined to like that cause it’s MIKE and Earl but I’m sure the project has more than just that

The Ageism argument towards rappers is insane to me.

Like Em didn’t get huge until 25-26. Fif didn’t have his huge run until he was 27-28.
    Ye and Jay at 26.
    DMX at 27

Hell, 2 Chainz didn’t get to blow up until he was 35.

Mind you, Future is 40 with the youth still looking up to his Wanda Sykes havin ass.

Moral of the story is never too late for any age to blow up and carry a new wave, whether lyrical or non-lyrical.

Yeah as long as you keep up and don't look geriatric yourself (and don't make a big deal or draw attention about how old you are) then no one cares about your age - always been like that, and gen z cares less about age in any genre than any era too but I bet op probly hates gen z or sumn

Some people are still psy-op'd by 2000s label propaganda that Rap is "a young man's game" which was even a lie then and just a slogan to sign mass swathes of young gullible people for the first time with the explosive popularity of Rap that led to ish like the ringtone era and the start of massive 360 deals since they could pull it over on them

Reinforcing that PR lie shows you lack critical thinking and (wether they realize it or not) are promoting the taking advantage of young and ignorant people and making it socially acceptable

  • Rappers still rapping so idk at some point folk just hating for no reason or lack of grass contact

Very dumb how you think over 25 isn't considered this gen when future and Rick ross were both in their 30s even before the peak of their careers in the 2010s and considered part of that era

It's not about the age it's about when you debut is what makes you part of a gen, just like how some others itt mentioned Veeze is a modern era Rapper as well

Kenny Mason, Samara Cyn, Serious Klein, Mavi, Ovrkast, Matt Proxy, La Reezy etc.

Future was old ashi compared to his “gen”

Think it’s more of media talking about “next up” or “freshman” that gets em clowned, they are not either lol

That cypher they pushed from OTR as “new” is also an issue mfs are not new

And it don’t help they all trash too

I'm an out of touch 33 year old and I can't for the life of me get into any of these new gen guys. I get that maybe I'm not their target audience but it really feels like there is nobody under the age of like 25 making rap music that is just focused primarily on lyrics, bars, punchlines, and everything else that was cool a decade+ ago. Even if there are they don't seem to be breaking outside of their bubble of an audience.

Not here to complain about the current state of music but maybe there are some younger people here who can put me onto some guys that are making this type of music?

Big news alert: lot of people don't care and/or can excuse n ignore a lot if you get to a point where you are good at what u do and are chill confident 🙀

And yeah those cyphers was trash, one was filled with niggas from 6 years ago and the other was filled with niggas that were just straight up trash n hardcore online 💀😂

Idk when it happened but Rap media is straight up in the gutter now and either are so behind, or so gimmicky - literally you just have to rely on yourself and people you trust, this is part of what has hurt Rap in major way with how much the media has fallen off from both major outlets and hobby/fan pages it's sad asl
