Its not like Kendrick is a scrub when it comes to singles. Lupe is a better lyricist than Kendrick by a bit for me, and I love Lupe more than the average person here but people really try and downplay Kendrick in defense of other artist on here a lot, maybe to combat some of the overhyping he gets but it still leaves people seeming kinda off in their argument. Like preferring Kendrick’s singles to Lupe’s doesn’t warrant a bunch of question marks but Paris Tokyo is a CLASSIC one of my fav songs oat

Idk. Kendrick just doesn’t connect with me sonically like he does others(I rather bump thug and future for strictly good music)

And he also doesn’t impress me lyrically because my bar is lupe. So he does nothing for me as an artist. BDKMV the only single of his I’m really crazy over.

But Dumb It Down was hardly a single

That’d be like if Kendrick released How Much A Dollar Cost as a single and it didnt impact at all really but I still was saying he had more impactful singles

I could’ve sworn Dumb It Down was the first single but wiki says it was the last :elon:

I must say part of the reason I think Lupe is a better rapper than Kendrick is because he's a huge Jay stan. Lupe provides commentary like Nas on IWW but from the perspective of Jay the hustler. Kendrick wants to be like pac and the soulquarians and they were never as talented at rapping as people like Jay. That Jay line about skills selling is really about him wanting to be Lupe, not Common

    Forgot about Hustlaz Song

Some of the battle rappers still impress me.

But yea after my lupe phase I been mostly just trap music. I don’t get much out of listening to lyricist after studying Lupes discography for years.

because when food and liquor dropped there were kids who were hip on lupe from that point forward

so when dumb it down came out

it was the first taste of what was to come

Yeah that might be true but sometimes you gotta separate the average fan from hip-hop. Where I'm From isnt one of the most popular Jay songs for an average fan. It still had a big impact on rap.

That doesn’t make it one of his most popular songs, I’m not trying to say its not a respected song amongst Lupe fans but go ask an average person to name a Lupe song they arent gonna say Dumb It Down

They’re gonna say Kick Push, Superstar, Show Goes On, Paris Tokyo etc
