damn....its not just booktokslop? ill try the first book and report back

Fair warning, the first one is good, especially after you read the others, but Golden Son is where it really kicks into high gear. So if you finish and are kinda like whatever, do yourself a favor and give Golden Son a chance.

I took about a month break in between Morningstar and Iron Gold. The multiple POV’s also took me a bit to get used to, but looking back, this book was a great foundation for the new trilogy, and the books only get better from there.

You need to trust the process. Ephraim and Lyria really grow on you, and by Dark Age, if not earlier, I think you will f*** with them.

PB really takes his sweet time with those two. If you don’t see the vision by the end of the book, you almost certainly will with Dark Age.

I think people are a little thrown off because the first three books were so fast, so the characters kinda had to click with you right away. Here, there’s more time, so I think he just lets them develop slower.

never posted itt. Got into the series maybe 2-3 years ago now? I like this series, a lotta people try to compare it to Sun Eater, but other than both being sci-fi with societies/governments that like to cosplay as Ancient Romans in universe, they don’t have much in common imo.

This series took me a while to get into. Multiple attempts. DNF’d RR maybe 4 times before I actually finished it. Didn’t start the 2nd novel until like 6 months later. Honestly the audiobook narrator had a lot to do with it. I do not like Tim Gerard Leynold’s voice all that much. Specifically when he tries to make his voice softer, in those moments that are supposed to be emotionally heavy. His voice is like nails on a chalk board to me. Just immediately aggravating. Then the first book was really such a.. Hunger Games derivative, which was derived from Battle Royal. Which made this even more stale in my eyes.

2nd book wasnt all that much better imo. I saw that ending coming miles away so I was just like yea… ok cool. Probably took me month to finish.

Morning Star was definitely a step up from the first 2 books. Took maybe a 2-3 week break after finishing the 2nd book. A bit more world building in this one, and the PB started upping his prose imo.

Now from Iron Gold to Lightbringer? This man Pierce Brown must’ve had that pure Escobar era coke. From book 4 to 6, I read back to back to back in about 2 weeks at most. They are LEAGUES better than the first 3 novels. My God I’ve never witnessed such a jump in quality from an author before. This man was in the zone crafting this 2nd half. Big reason I haven’t done a reread is because I’m dreading having to read the first 3 novels again. I might just watch a YouTube video for a recap for em, and start my reread from Iron Gold on.But sometimes you need those lows, to appreciate the highs

fantastic review. I can’t wait for Red God. I have a feeling that it’ll drop next year, but by then, I’ll also need a recap on the first three books lmao

Mustang and Darrow acknowledging that they should have been more like the other and that the other was right when they were separately faced with their children's kidnapping is poetic as f\*\*\* and why I love their relationship arc in this book especially
Probably my least favorite of the series so far, but still a solid 3.75/5 and I can see how this will set up the rest of the series. Can't wait to start Dark Age
