Like their whole thought process right now is making the same thing steam made but better. Steam and game pass on a console. Plus it’ll run windows and not Linux which will definitely hold back valves hardware.

Steam machine specs aren’t great and they won’t have the assembly line and discount on parts to price this thing like a console

sure itll probably have better specs but it'll still be a harder sell than the steam machine just off pricing alone. if i go off the asus rog ally its definitely gonna cost way more than the steam machine

linux isnt really holding back steam either since most games and emulators are already compatible with or have linux versions

honestly dont even think the specs are too bad on this either really, like sure it wont run battlefield 6 and probably gta vi well but thats its not even the selling point for this console, it should be able to run most games just well

I'm sure by release they will have Alyx optimized to run standalone but its surprising to hear that. I would've thought the frame's standalone was built specifically to run alyx at peak performance

I think the console is sort of a misstep. I think they should have kept their focus on vr handheld and the controller. The console seems novel more than anything. Idk the specs on it but if it barely out performs the steamdeck then I do not see a ton people buying it.

they said its 6 times stronger than the steamdeck and honestly the specs are good enough to run most stuff at 1080p 60fps+ they just cant market it like that cos 4k60fps is the standard these days
