    my most seminal Hip Hop experience growing up tho was when I went to summer camp and one of my counselors who was a backpacker gave me a list of "real" Hip Hop albums to buy

    came back from summer camp when I was like 12 and bought Illmatic, 3 Feet High and Rising, The Low End Theory, Criminal Minded, Blackstar, Let's Get Free, Do You Want More? and a few others

    the rest is history
