Ive been observing this phenomenon where for the most part people are strongly biased to only listen to popular musicians

I think honestly people only care about artists associated with a larger movement. A lot if not most if my favorite songs are completely obscure soundcloud tracks with 1k plays.

But heres the catch, i noticed the vast majority of soundcloud songs comoletrly stall on listens after a few days post release, meaning that despite however many ppl liked the song, very few if any are going back to listen again.

I genuinely am confused like do people even care about music or is it all sum cherade to fit in with a larger crowd

Most people do not care about music no.

Or any kind of art.

When I properly DJ’d I actively sought out unknown artists to play on radio and in clubs

People used to take pride in being early on an artist now they just want to be told who’s next

Hmm so it kinda depends on what type of music it is and how generally appealing it is

Cus the dudes i listen to make sum pretty abrasive and loud music or like arguably amatuer music so maybe ppl dont see the vision

Truu, what i see is artists will get a strong push and over time people accept their sound

But like with charli xcx and sky ferrera, oftentimes the new popular artist is just spawned from a preexisting sound and the progenitors of the sound are usually ignored

Music is just as consumerist as anything else, people listen to certain artist to feel cool or represented.

For the music nerds they think it’s cooler to listen to a song or artist barely anybody knows about, and others have an attitude of “who??”
