Feel like that era was full of disappointing debut albums

    Finally Famous
    Sideline Story
    Attention Deficit
    Rolling Papers

Didn’t like Bob album either but wasn’t expecting much from him

The expectations for these projects were way too high. Sideline story and thank me later are legit good albums

Man where do i even start.

I was a Junior in high school when SFG came out.

I can honestly say Room for Improvement and Come back Season
was where i really started to pay closer attention to Drake too.

I remembered back in the KTT1 days and holla-front forum the music that i was dialed into was Joe Budden's Mood Muzik series, Little brother/9th wonder, and Slum Village. Crazy how he went from Boom Bap to SFG and to becoming the artist that he is now.

It's crazy the nostalgia that i'm feeling right now. Ye and Drizzy really was the soundtrack to my life from my early high school days and college.

Crazy what kind of music they could of created together if they had point their differences aside.

So Far Gone definitely doesn't get enough flowers for being one of Drake's best project.

I still listen to the album at least once every year just to revisit the feeling it's a masterpiece to me same as TC.

those were the days man. Ye and Jay WTT. J. Cole, Wayne, Drizzy, and young money, Big Sean, Atlanta music scene, Ross and MMG, man it was a great ERA for rap music

  • Oct 6, 2025

I'm a drake hater now but SFG was so special man. I remember liking comeback season and room for improvement and how they both showed his potential but I knew that if he found "his" sound then he would be outta here and he found it on SFG and the rest is history.

He really fumbled his debut (even tho I enjoy a lot of songs on TML). So far gone and Take care just had a different level of impact

Just about everyone from that time fumbled their debut because of label interference changing what made the artist special in the first place.

It was the wild wild west back then and the labels didn't know what to do with the artist that blew up on the blogs.

They signed the blog era rappers and either shelved them or made them put out a watered down albums.

  • Oct 6, 2025

I know Drake said it was an industry album from the features side of it but sound wise TML was still mainly 40 and Boi-1da and Drake did his thing on there. He wasn’t getting Skylar Grey hooks and Alex Da Kid production like some of the others at that time. It just wasn’t the instant classic it was hyped up to be but still a very good album.

Fosho, it makes me so disappointed, because bro didn’t need to cosplay as somebody different each album.

if he had stay as himself and owned up to being sensitive, he would’ve had way more respect and love nowadays.

Important to Drake’s career and progression as an artists and his place in the music industry. By definition that makes it important in music history overall because Drake is one of the biggest artists ever. OP also makes good points about how it impacted the commercialization tactics of music. But just on the music itself, I don’t think there’s really anything super innovating, influential, or exemplary about it. It’s just a fine project form a fine rapper who has mega commercial appeal.

The remixes are flawless he wasn’t the first but him and cudi kinda made the idea of someone showing that versatility at that level possible

  • off first listen you knew it was something different. ended up booking his first show in texas, never having thrown one before. made 30k in a night, had bun b come down to perform uptown -- believe it was the first time they met
