If they aren’t a top 10 highest selling rap group i wouldnt say they’re one of the highest selling

I love tribe to death too but even they exist in somewhat of a niche and they make the blackest music possible.

I definitely think you can be outcasted in any community not just the black community for having your own interest, thats basically the point im trying to make thats what comes with not being a monolith. Now in the case of people like Tyler & Donald i definitely think it turned into self hatred for them and I don’t excuse that at all but I don’t think we’re having genuine convos when we act like our community is somehow different from every other community and all accepting. That plus I do think both of them have also helped me when I was younger feel a bit more understood as a child and I was also luckily able to identify that I didn’t need to adopt their anti blackness maybe because I was already deeply immersed in blackness as a child and loved it

    you know what touche

and no I wasn't trying to come off like our community is different or that outcasting is NOT a real thing (cause yes it is).

I just remember the anime ass niggas I grew up with in high school and like....a good 75% of em are type maga today

(also I too was a floater so while I wouldn't identify as "cool" I never really had issues with no particular group demographic growing up)

Syd actually was a heavy defender of their right to say slurs i can post the interview if yall want

But i do think w the slurs thing there were multiple closeted gay OF members and i think they knew that even then on top of being edgy

would bet 200 aura points that syd also 10000% knew about tyler too

But he wasnt selling blackface merch or doing videos in blackface or being the ringleader/figurehead of it all.

Also he himself is technically a casualty of all that crazy s*** by the fact his mom singlehandedly grounded him from rap for like 2-3 years yo lmao.

Heavy is the head that chose to wear the crown.

Didnt see this post but true s*** on the last part

At the end of the day tyler was the leader, and the blackface thing is the worst thing tyler has ever done hands down. I hated it even in real time its disgusting that he did that but I really do believe that was his turning point

Shoutout Matt & Syd they are good people and Im glad tyler kept them in his life after that

the difference is Andre aint stop wearing that weird s*** and if anything felt emblazened to go even further. I remember the pimp trick master click skits too lol.

Tribe AND Outkast also both have the fortunate luck of already establishing a solid black audience before said "pivot" versus Tyler who did it the opposite way.

Their continued success & Andre continuing to experiment doesn't mean it wasn't still an issue for them, cmon homie

dre made multiple references to it all over the album because it obviously affected him, you heard Return Of The G, that nigga was angry about how people were disrespecting him for being different

    C'mon fam

imo, it being an issue meant that it affected careers

Oh yeah absolutely. they was saying he was on d**** when he was mostly d***ged out on their first album lol.

But after that was Stankonia and Speakerboxxx/Love Below which skyrocketed them niggas lmao.

    Yes

I remember this s*** so vividly. Hands down the worst thing Tyler has ever done it was like 2013 too he was already famous

This was also dumb as hell

tl;dr: as the years go by more people realize why noname had that breakdown that she did.

That s*** has to eat at you as a black artist yo.

Fr because deep down they know that if one of their own fans who wears glasses wasn't wearing them or one of their fans saw them from behind, they might be scared of them until they realised who it was

    It's messed up tbh

I believe that too, Syd honestly came off really immature (not a diss) in her first interviews

Im sure she feels completely different then because in 2011 at the height of their homophobic allegations she was legit the only open member even Frank was still closeted

But one thing I will say is even though race / coon s*** was legit a big issue amongst OF fandom, OF fans were not homophobic man i dont think OF really was tryna push homophobia they actually have a lot to do with a lot of people being open to listening to gay artist

Yea true there was a lot of speculating at the time, but like the mix of white supremacy and the gay flag.. i dont get it lmao

He’s letting this get to him when he shouldn’t

This how it is for any artist with a big fan base. He’s just one of the few big artists that actually talks about his influences and tries to put people onto them

Think it’s a little different for him. The optics for Tyler have always been that his fanbase skewed more white, even before he was filling up arenas

I'm moreso saying that it must be annoying being the LGBTQ person who has to come to their defence over it, Ya feel me?

Like in a world where Tarantino doesn't have some internalised racism but Samuel L Jackson constantly gets asked about why Nigga is all over Tarantino's work but he has to keep answering for it for him
    Nah'mean?

I do recall her perhaps mentioning this particular thing around a time when she further separated from OF/leaned more into the Internet

I think he thought making the white power symbol rainbow colored was some kind of f*** you but like there’s still gay white people that are racist

Those 2 things don’t cancel each other out lol

  • Oct 17, 2025

    Basically to sum it up

On one hand I think Tyler needs to take more accountability if he wants people to respect his change. He’s done a lot of wack s*** and a couple things hes done are straight up horrible like the blackface

But I do think its disingenuous to act like he ignores it completely and hasn’t addressed it whatsoever and also I think people on twitter do a lot when they act like hes an awful person. He honestly doesn’t come off like a terrible guy just way too stubborn til this day and misguided at points

Was wondering when this was gonna be a thread on here lol. But yea he gotta acknowledge directly that he practically cultivated a fanbase that behaves like that

surprised the thread itself is pretty constructive

    perhaps too constructive
